I saw lows 20s, don't remember the exact number.

Yea that's what I am seeing... I haven't been able to get the sports dial past 350HP though with sport+.

Sports dials are factory numbers. Hard coded into the computer. They'll never change unless reprogrammed.

Hmm so those hp and torque numbers that get displayed are hard coded maximum stock values?

indeed. I know because running JB4, CAI, OCC, catless DP, and remus catback the numbers still show the exact same for HP and tq. No way I'm still putting out the same power when on map2.

Service Engine Light

I just installed the Dinantronics Sport on my b58 440i coupe MT yesterday. It took a mile for it to kick in. Power is definitely noticable, and so it my turbo spool with my intake. I tried both Sport+ and Race mod. I would say unless you are about to literally race, dont put it on. It turned into a complete different car with this. However, after 24 hours of installation, the engine service light came out of nowhere while cruising. I tried restarting the car but the light still comes on and stays on with no message on the dashboard.

Any idea on what it could be?

Just got my sports tuner for my m240 6speed and I can say the power is noticeable. I've ran it on sport and sport+ so far. Do not like the non linear power delivery though, it is very jerky. Even when you just trying to cruise, you can notice it jerking with the sports display. Hoping that the ecu will adjust after some miles added. I will try race mode hopefully tomorrow and I'll keep you guys updated on the CEL. hopefully it doesn't pop up.

New 540i owner here.. was about to pull the trigger on this (there are.. 3 mod threads in the G30 forums, so pardon the interruption), but it seems so incredibly mixed and unpredictable I don't want to deal with it. I would expect the product to be rock solid, and the caveat to the price point being if something did break, the Dinan warranty would not apply.. instead it seems you're paying $300 for a guessing game. Will I get a CEL? Will it be a lemon? Who knows at this point. Overall the hardware seems unreliable based on the mixed reviews in this thread.

I know the B58 in the 540i is the higher-spec output, so I feel like that doesn't work in favor of this unit. Not sure what to do, was super excited and about to buy it, but now it just seems like "here's the unit, and you might be SOL".

I'll say this much - I installed the Dinantronics Elite - and it is wonderful - smooth, no weird effects, no complaints.

Get the JB4 instead since you're not getting warranty anyways and you will get a smoother running unit with the JB4.

Updates on tuners???

I want to bump this thread to see if all of you with Dinan Sport and JB4 tuners can give updates on performance. Still satisfied (or not)? Did the ECU on your cars consistently smooth out the jerky behavior of the Sport or Map 2 on the JB4? Would you buy a different brand/model next time around?

I've had mine for months, put it on the +2 PSI setting and left it there. Still happy with the very noticeable performance improvement, ease of installation and bang for buck. Drive-ability is fine. No CELs or any other issues.

I have been running it on Race mode as well as sport plus for a couple of thousand miles... everything runs fine and the power is great.

My thinking as well . . . I have been doing some internet reading on piggyback tuners and the general design summary is that more sensors equates to better drivability and maybe slightly more power. That being said, the JB+ uses the fewest sensors (TMAP only) and would therefore seem to have the least smooth driving characteristics and would be most prone to CELs. However, the default JB+ boost setting I believe is +3.5 psi (fairly strong) but I see no users complaining about drivability or CEL problems at that boost level. (To be fair, I am not finding much feedback on JB+ either pro or con). In contrast, the Dinan Sport uses an additional sensor (MAP & TMAP) but garners a number of user comments about jerky response and CELs if set to +3 or +4 psi boost. From what I have learned, the jerkiness apparently comes from the engine knock sensor reducing timing when boost is too high under certain load/RPM conditions. Even the JB4 with the extra MAP sensor and ODBII input is mentioned on Youtube as not always having smooth driving characteristics.

So I am left wondering. I wish we could get more user feedback on these various tuner options, with particular reporting on drivability (smoothness).

It highly depends on the map setting you're using. On map 3, I feel like the only jerky driving I get is when gassing it to pass people, otherwise in comfort mode it's smooth. Also I notice the turbo lag feel and surge of power around 2k rpm when launching as well, but that's expected seeing as first gear is so short

Jerky driving is typically based on the tune itself and if it was done a specific way. Some provide more than others.

Greg: How is the smoothness of your acceleration in these two modes? Did your ECU have to adjust for 30-50 miles (as reported earlier in this thread) when switching between the modes?

I personally think its pretty smooth, obviously when switching gears the car jerks a little more but for the most part its smooth. And yes it took some time to adjust to it. At first it was pretty jerky, especially cruising at higher speeds. Now I constantly drive in Sport + and race mode, even if I'm in traffic on the highway, and everything runs fine.
