$10k increase in value after a year of ownership? f31 contect....

Howdy,

So, I always am dreaming about addding an f31 to the fleet for the wife to drive. It is a total dream on my part, but none the les, I still look from time to time.

Yesterday I came accross this 2017 330ix Touring in WI.. Seller is pretty proud of it asking just about $45k. SICK wagon, but certainly not worth the asking price regardless of the mods. If it has a B58 swap, I would be selling my kidneys, testies, etc to get that car.

I was then surfing the "for sale"section in the F30/31/32 forum. I searched "f31" and oddly enough found this.

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&highlight=f31

Am I crazy? These are the same cars right? Can anyone tell me why the new owner is selling for 11k more? Does anyone see anything added other than the wheels?

Sorry, I just thought my fellow f22 friends might find this as entertaining as I do. I tend to find this group a bit more more logical than other groups around here....

josh

PS MODS, please move if too off topic..

You can ask any price you want. The real question is what it sells for.
Also, there is a sucker born every minute, so why not try?
Plus, the market is crazy right now.
Finally, this a fairly rare specimen.

I do not disagree with really anything you said. I thought pretty much the same stuff when I found it. Especially the "sucker" part. BUT, if you had a bunch of disposable income or this was the "one" that you had been wanting and wating for, who am I to judge, right? Haha. Like I have never done something like that myself (1985 Scirocco, 1984 GTI come to mind)....

If he was offering it at or near the price he paid. i may have given it a thought. As you said, it is a rare, well put together touring. Although I struggle with the color and the fact all wagons are 4 cyl. Oh how I wish BMW imported the 340i touring wagons to the US....

Market is crazy right now, I've been kicking my self for my timing last year. I traded a M240x vert with 8k miles for $35k, which was about right at the time. Now, a year later, trade in is in the low $40's even adjusting for mileage.

I love my new car, finally got the manual trans, but you can never predict the future market.

right?

My M240ix appears to be going up in value pretty signifigantly. I paid ~$31k for it with 37k mi, CPO and a redic service history. It was garaged and immaculatge. The price at the time was right in line with clean M240i's, if not a bit cheaper.

It now has just about 44k mi and I have seen similar cars going for $35-37k. And they FLY off the dealer lots. Barely a day goes by and they are gone. My Dad just bought an M4 Comp in a similar manner. The cars pic never made it to the website as we swooped in and bought it before they could even wash the damn thing. HAHA. But, it was what Dad wanted , and is where the market is these days.

I almost want to sell my car, and bank the money for when the market frenzy fizzles out. I seriously want an M2. But I am not sure the wife would agree this is a great plan...

Curious what to expect on a 2015 M235 vert with 44.5k miles and immaculate with all maintenance records. Thinking $25k is reasonable. Any thoughts?

TAZ007 I think $25k is a super reasonable price. The dealership just offered me $23k for my 2017 230ix with 55k miles.

My dad just traded in his 2016 M235i Vert with ~25k miles and got around $25k for it. It was immaculate with all maintenance records too. That was in FL.

Thanks. Now I'm curious what they are turning these around for. 30-35k maybe

Yeah, 30-35K is spot on. Mine also has higher mileage even though it looks a lot cleaner than the cars going for sale.

I bet you are curious about it. How about try to get a quick quote from carvana, it takes like 5 mins. Enter some basic information and they will give you an offer.

Thanks, I plan to do that in about 2 weeks. I will use that for a competing quote with the dealership. I understand it is good for about 7 days.

The offer is extendable and you can always ask again. They are pretty persistent. That 7 days is much like those counter you see on some website. Sales for 25% for the next 7 days only. Then in 7 days, you see another sales for 25% for the next 7 days.

Thanks, this helps a lot. I will probably put it in this weekend.

Drifting up

I look at online VROOM site for what's for sale. I have noticed used prices have drifted up at least 2K over the past few months. Its cool my car may be worth more...but I have to replace it ! Nothing fits the bill as the 240 does for my needs.

I'm in the same situation. Sold mine last spring for about the same when I was worried about losing my job and the economy tanking. The only thing making me feel better is that I had a XDrive/auto and really want to get into a RWD/6sp. If I see a car for sale, it's $5-$10k more than what I sold mine for.

I posted this article link in the pricing thread, from a Washington Post article about increasing used car prices. It's from March:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/busin...ation-economy/

Quote:
Santini has put 22,000 miles on his car in 10 months, which would normally reduce its value. Instead, Santini is marveling at how his car’s value has actually gone up.
From my recent experience, models like the M235/M240 and THP sell very quickly and prices have gone steadily higher over the last 4+ months.

Yes agree about 30-34 depending on options. 25 is below what I'd expect from a private party sale.

When I first started shopping last year, I felt Edmunds had the best measure of prices for cars that were actually selling. They also seemed to be good across the different models/brands I was looking at. By March this year I felt like Edmunds estimator was not as current for the M235, like the online estimator wasn't up to date in a way that reflected the M235/M240's that were selling in my area in the most recent few weeks. Carvana and Carmax I felt were more current, and for the M235 the prices were just going up and up. In my area, even cars that had significant issues, at least to me, things like moderate accident damage or multiple accidents and no service history, were selling, and sellers were asking more than I expected and sometimes much more.

Interesting. I just received a Vroom and Carvana quotes and they were both at 25k. I mentioned that to my Dealer and they said they would match it.

But I do see my car type online for 32.5-35k so I might settle on 27 with the dealer since they have minimal inventory right now.
