As far as I know all F chassis 2, 3, 4 series have the same filters (pictured last).

Could your first picture be that other unspeakable 2 series model or the G chassis? It looks like the F44 uses 2 filters like your first pic, but I'm not sure of their orientation in realoem. The G42 doesn't seem to have been added to realoem yet but they use a rectangular filter with a corner cut out.

Just kidding, the gran coupe is kind of the step child no one talks about. Started production in 2020.
Yeah the dealer would have the proper one for you I'm sure. I went with a Mann branded one for my replacement last week.

The OEM part number is 64-11-9-237-555. It is mostly square. I replace mine once a year.

ok so the videos for the m2 were bang on (that curved thingy)

it was easy enough, just a royal PITA trying to contort into the space

I dont think I put it in the wrong way, I matched the curve and arrow, not sure with the right curve if you can put it in upside3 down (I'll take a picture)

is it bad if I have put it in wrong way around ?

now I know how to do it, I can pull it apart and check

NEXT doing the engine air filter and the washer fluid needs a top up

Most filters do have a direction and the bentley video shows the arrow facing towards the front of the car. Some people claim that is wrong. I just matched directions with what was already there.

Parts from the dealer are pretty highly marked up. I definitely wont be going back there for common parts (out of warranty).

I'm glad we have the 228i - cabin filter is $43 & engine air filter is $49, from BMW of Fairfax (Virginia).

The problem is you live in Canada and there are few dealers. They charge whatever they want. I buy online and many times I am surprised how some BMW dealers in USA are competitive for maintenance parts as spark plugs, oil filters and air filters.

MANN and MAHLE are OEM air filters suppliers. The only items I have no compromise are oil filters and spark plugs. These need to be in branded BMW boxes. I also always order BMW 0W20 oil and coolant only.
