Caliper paint eroding...
Guys: I'm in Westchester County NY...the snow has finally let up so I got the car rinsed today.
Chic out what I noticed on the back caliper. The paint appears to be eroding? The one white spot is from my finger nail when I went to touch it. Should I address this with BMW? From what I understand, painting calipers requires you to have the brake fluid emptied and its a fairly big production.

To my eye, that looks more like an abrasion/gouge than erosion/paint deterioration. In any event, I had my calipers painted to match my car and the brake system remained sealed throughout the process.

Just finished a winter with a F30-335i with M-sport brakes and didn't experience this issue. Have to agree Sportstick - looks like abrasion to me.

Have you had the wheels removed. Because I am almost sure that looks like it's from an impact gun. If the wheel isn't damaged then that's what most likely happen. I'd bring to the dealers attention. They may cover it.

If something hit it while the wheels were moving, my bet is there is a corresponding chip on one of the wheel spokes/arms?

The abrasion you are seeing is from my finger nail when I went to touch the paint,
You can see the paint has peeled or thinned on two separate locations on the caliper. Do you think someone damaged it and then tried to do a hatchet repair job when the rim was refinished?

Just dawned on me that this rim was refinished by the dealer.
I bet they chipped the paint when they were putting the wheel back on, and tried to use touch up paint to cover it up.

I just looked at this with a larger screen and the 12 o'clock position on the circular area looks damaged/repaired as well.

So I'm assuming they will cover having it repainted because their body shop guys did the damage?

Unfortunately, this becomes a matter of how customer-oriented they are, and the possible need for proof. If they are not customer-driven, they may just point out that once the car left their shop, they have no idea what else may have happened. If they are honest and admit to the repair, you know you found a good shop, even though sometimes, problems do happen during work.

Good catch; it looks like maybe the wheel slipped and 2 spokes straddled the caliper. They got some 'splainin to do.

GFK, I sent you a PM regarding this. My M235 is at a BMW dealer in Westchester, and they're sending my wheel out for repair, too.
I'm sorry this happened to you! As others have said, it looks like someone damaged the caliper with the wheel and attempted to cover it up. |

I'm going to fight this. The service center outsources the rim for repair.
The fact that the body shop blatantly tried to cover up their mistake ticks me off.
