Why do people call it a SHE???

I don't understand why do people call a car a She.

In English it would be, it, and not she.

In Spanish it is a He.

Other than sexual enuendos; it seems more appropriate to call the Macho 235 a HE.

Cars have gender confusion when used in discussion. For instance, my brother in law has a big truck on a 10" lift with a HEMI that he calls by a female name, yet when the engine gets roaring, he says the truck has balls. Who knows? It is what it is...

When entering the garage, we take the Bimmer or the Benz. Unless my little grandson is with me. Then we take the Race Car, which of course is the Bimmer.

Really like it but not sure if 235i meets Macho standard. : ). I always wondered about that myself. Also dislike it when you show a girl a truly Macho car and they says it's cute!

Guys tend to fawn over their vehicles.
Perhaps most males would prefer to think they're fawning over an object they consider female.

Probably related with captains and crew calling their ships "she", and if so, goes way back in history.

It translates into English only as "the", as we do not have article adjectives with gender assignments for inanimate nouns. However, in French, car is a feminine noun. "Le voiture" will fail on a French test, although literally still "the car".

Agreed

Growing up I didn't give my bikes girl names or my rc cars.

I personally don't get it.
