M235i Wind Noise on Highway

Hi all,

I have been experiencing an issue solely at highway speeds (65mph+) where the driver's side window seems to have an air leak somewhere along the seal. As if it is not properly sealed. Nothing comes from the passenger side window, however.

I took my car to the dealer and asked about it and they claimed it was "normal behavior" but I'm finding that hard to believe since it only comes from one side of the car. Additionally, I found a similar post with a service bulletin for the 135i from a few years back, here:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=662254

Has anyone experienced anything similar with their car or have any ideas about what I can do to fix it? I asked the dealer the cost to just have the driver's side molding/seal replaced and he quoted me ~$300 including labor but I would obviously like to avoid that if possible.

Do this...

Roll wimdow down slightly .

Add making tape or blue tape ontop on length of top edge of window, close window , and take for ride and see if noise stops.

If that doesn't change, possibly put tape on window while closed, and get in from pass side, and drive, see if it still makes noise .

I don't think it is any way near normal.

This wind noise sounds unusual. I'd take it back, stomp on their instep, and make them fix it... under warranty.

My wife's jetta sportwagen does this. It drives me nuts! I've yet to try taping it up and going for a ride...just been too lazy.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

I'm going to attempt the masking tape fix over the weekend and see what happens, and take it from there.

I have the CF mirrors... and I get a whistle that I hear when the windows are down (not heard if I close all windows)... pretty distinct whistle even... around 40mph or so.

Does this noise sounds like a whistle?
If yes, I had exactly the same problem. Thanks to my dealership. It was fixed by replacing the window trim on the small rear window on driver's side.

Hope that helps.

I do have the CF mirrors as well, but this only happens to me when the windows are up..

Yeah, it definitely sounds similar to a whistle. I'm not sure whether it comes from the front window or the small rear window, but it's certainly from the driver's side. I'll bring it up next time I'm near my dealership.

In no way is a whistle from a car window considered an acceptable in cabin noise. Contact customer services directly and have them contact the dealership who advised this and they will soon change their tune.

I drive a 220d convertible and wouldn't accept a whistle.

No way this is normal. Please tell us which dealer is giving you this nonsense excuse so we can avoid them!

FWIW I've spent many miles crusing at 155mph without any noise from either the OEMs or the RW Carbon caps. Removing the caps is pretty easy, there are several removal guides on these forums, I would suggest looking in the DIY section. Hope the issue can be resolved for you.
