Seriously, I know many of you are bummed but this is far quicker and direct response to what many of us have faced in the past with fuel pumps. This was a really quick, low drama recall. I'm critical of BMW when I think they are messing up but this time around, they got a bad part from a top-notch supplier (BOSCH) and they are quickly recalling it. Doesn't get much better than that for resolving an issue.
I knew several that had several fuel pump failures in the past in E90s and E82s only to be told they were working on it, it's US fuel, blah blah. I was told that the 1M pump was not affected, blah blah....at 10K miles car takes longer to start then starts on 1 cylinder sounding like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. So just offering some perspective, this recall came on after few failures compared to the past. |

They aren't releasing any specific recalls until April 30th... So we have to wait until then to see if we are really affected by this recall. I think this will be a one time thing. In the past HPFP used in BMW's had more problems than this. Especially since they are using Bosch, which is pretty reputable, this is surprising. I bet after this issue is resolved we won't be seeing fuel pump issues again. I think BMW has learned from their mistakes and they will be smart here.

Maybe it took the Takata and GM fiascoes and the NTSB crackdown...all automakers are recalling things at the drop of the hat now

There was a class action lawsuit with the N54 so that's why they are reacting quickly this time. I had early April production so I dodged this but didn't dodge the N54 recall. Never had a problem with my N54 and like someone said we may get extended warranties if we're lucky.

Go figure I was in today for a tire swap; guess I'll need to go back.
No issues yet on mine. Rolled over 11,000 miles today and it's the launch edition. I'm glad they are addressing it ASAP.

Yes, decoder says 4/2/14 and I took delivery the end of March, so I know the US style 2/4/14 date is correct. I've got 13,000 miles on it without an issue so far. epic got his right before mine.

I'm in the range so I contacted my BMW service centre to find out if my car is concerned.
Answer is YES and my fuel pump will be replaced next Monday. (FYI : I'm in Belgium, next to Germany). And they will start the procedure to replace my auto gearbox (whistling on reverse) |

Not sure about regulations and labels in your country, but try opening the driver door and look down on the right side of the door jamb for a label which may have location and date of assembly.

Just called in to my service advisor and they said because they cant find the recall in their system they wont be performing it. This is in canada so i suppose things often take longer up here.
Basically she said until BMW NA sends me a letter don't worry about it XD. When I am there in person on thursday i will be reiterating my concern in person. Mostly annoyed they they wont look into it further and are wasting my time by having the car come in twice. I also had to tell them to remove the "please provide courtesy vehicle wash" from my service order lol. |
