You mean, of course, the F87 DCT will be special since we already know the G87 with not have DCT. Conversely, the G87 will have MT . . . BMW won't fuck that up. ///AVM |

Ok, I appreciate DCT, but what makes a car last the test of time (sans supercars) is the manual transmission. Going back on BMW's past. The manual ones are much more desirable. Imagine how much more expensive the M3 CSL would be if it was a manual. Also, auto transmission technology changes rapidly. The ZP 8spd shifts almost as fast as the DCT. In a few years, I bet the ZF would be faster than the current gen DCTs.

I'm sure they will have manual. They can't be that crazy. I'm just wondering if the manual will only be reserved for the base model and not the competition.

Guess I'll have to edit that! As for comparisons, my favorite out of the 3 was the E92 but mostly because it was the first car I took an interest in modding so it holds a special place in my heart. Low end torque was a bit of a let down but you get used to driving in higher rpms. The 911 was superior in every single way but incredibly expensive to maintain. It was nearing 80k miles and felt a bit dated for daily driving but the sounds it made with the turbo spool and Akra exhaust is my favorite to this day. I also only had it for roughly a year. Currently loving the M2 and in my mind, will be the only car I get in the near future before giving into some more comfortable for the family.

I think I know what you mean but, to be clear . . . you mean the manual will be exclusive to the M2, while ZF8 exclusive to the M2C? As is the case with the G80/82, seems very possible. If such were the case, then seems reasonable that BMW will release the M2 and M2C simultaneously. However, I believe the G80/82 M3/M4 - or, as you state, base models - can be upgraded to 'Competition Package,' which are not really different models. I guess we will have to see if the G87 has separate M2 and M2C models, or an M2 with Competition Package? Honestly, latter makes good sense, and I think I would like it better than releasing two separate models at different times. ///AVM |

Sorry for the confusion with the term "base" but you're spot on with what I was trying to convey. Basically will the G87 release simultaneously an entry level G87 along with a G87 competition, with the latter only being available with the ZF transmission. That would be a shame especially since I was itching to go back to a 6 spd in the best possible model available.

I think the best thing about the recently released G80/82 comes with considering what the G87 will inherit from them. . . S58 engine and new ///M bucket seats come to forefront of my mind.

My guess is:
Base manual: 430 hp 406 tq Comp auto only: 460 hp 440 tq I can't see them going any higher on the comp side without having traction issues, and you know M2 never getting AWD in G form. These numbers would also be in the same range of the refreshed RS3 and CLA45 AMG. Last edited by PackPride85; 10-04-2020 at 03:32 PM.. |

It is all good, as the S55 already has plenty of giddy-up . . . In fact, one could reasonably argue the F87 is over-powered, but I will go with 'the M2C is under tired' at this point. Still, there comes a point where more is less and I suspect BMW is just about at the limits of what the RWD can 'put down' on the road . . . the rest is just wheel spinning or, as we all recognize, one small step away from AWD. I am going to miss DCT, but suspect ZF8 will perform admirably . . . so long as I have capacity to control shift points with a shifter (NOT paddles) then I will be happy. Everything shared to date indicates ZF8 is more than capable when it comes to manual mode. ///AVM Last edited by ///AVM; 10-04-2020 at 06:10 PM.. |

I wonder if they’ll allow those seats in the base or Comp - wouldn’t shock me if they’re CS / CSL only...or otherwise cost-prohibitive.

Honestly, I think Porsche is beginning to do that with the 718 T. You can finally get Porsche' CF buckets without having to go to the GTS of GT4 variants.

To your point, this appears to be changing, albeit slowly, on the Porsche front. BMW appears to be hard headed on this front...

The next gen M2 will be heavier. No doubt.

I have an m2 competition. The 411hp is enough.
I would rather see lightness then more hp. My 1m coupe with 340hp was also enough hp. This car is still in my memory. It has brought me more fun then my m2. I would also like a 4 cil with some kind of mild anti lag system. 340/360hp 4 cil and a new lightweight m2. I can promise you the lightness on the front with a 4cil will give massive response. For people who want hp there is the m4 or m5, m8. Let the new m2 be a new 1m coupe and add lightness. |

You forget how bad they are until you sit/see someone else's car with premium leather...

The OG seats are part of the understated nature of the car, which is what I like about the total package. Agree the leather could be better...my F30 seat feel way nicer, and I used to think those were below average lol.
