Imo it's a niche bmw vehicle for enthusiasts who don't want, dont need or can't afford an M car. The M2 will definitely cut into future M235/240 sales making it even more of a rare breed.

I was at the local dealership yesterday and looked at a pre-owned 2015 M235i on their showroom floor. Yes, they are rare enough that the dealership had it on their showroom floor!
It's a Black Sapphire Metallic | Black Dakota Leather | 8-speed automatic | Driver Assistance Package | Premium Package | Technology Package | Harman/Kardon | M Performance Rear Diffuser w/ Chrome Tips | Black Kidney Grilles. Shows 1200 miles and delivered to the previous owner December 31st. Not sure why they traded it back in less than three weeks from new delivery. |

It really depends on how many M2s they import. The 1Ms had very little impact on the 135s sales since there were so few of them available.

But folks who have the means, want the "M edge", want their M235 loaded like me? My car stickered @ $55k. If there was a $60k M2 sitting next to it? Damn right its going to get strong consideration from me

I saw a EB 2 series on 520 yesterday. It looked like the driver was headed to Microsoft.
One of the first two series I have seen on the road. |

I think I spotted you in traffic again, driving by my office. I shot this from my window. Could that be you again, at the corner of Pass/Alameda? |

Not as rare as it I thought, at least in Downtown LA! There is an M235i parked fairly close to me in the garage of my apartment complex (taunting me as I wait for my ED). And while driving to some food yesterday on traffic congested I-10 W to Santa Monica I saw an M235i and 228i! Two cars! On one trip! But compared to the number of 3/4 series I see, it's nothing! And certainly I am hyper-perceptive to looking for 2 series since I am excited about getting mine .
EDIT: And they look much nicer in person than they do in photos, for some reason. Especially the back. |

I live in SoCal too and still have not seen a 2 Series and, believe me, I've been looking. Thought I saw one yesterday but when I got closer I saw it was a 428.

Btw - the black one looks like it had track pkg (Michellin SS) and it was a manual. Jealous. Black leather interior.
Mine is the terra cotta. And it's an automatic. No track pkg. |

After months of looking I did see more first 228i a couple of weeks ago on the 710. But that's it. But daily now, I'm seeing i3's and some days multiple i3's.

Saw this EB yesterday and today pulling out of the same parking lot out in Rowland Heights. Only the sixth one I've seen. Tried giving a thumbs up but it was too hard to make eye contact with the driver. Wonder if it belongs to someone on these forums.

These 2 series are still quite rare. I see 4 series all the time though.
