Probably too early to tell on both counts. The B58 engine is higher rated as far as peak HP and TQ but only time will tell if it's actually a better or a more reliable engine. Plus, if you are wanting to tune, it may be harder to find a good tune for the B58. Lots of folks are saying it doesn't sound as good as the N55. I have a M240i on order though.

No buyers remorse needed, buddy. You got such a good deal, and the N55 isn't "old news" it's still a very advanced powertrain with a shit-ton of modding capabilities. B58 seems good, like any i6-Turbo, but shouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone on the fence. The N55 has proven to be a winner, that should inspire confidence in your purchase.

There will ALWAYS be better cars just enjoy what you've got then on to the next one. The engine in yours is a proven winner and honestly I don't think the 240 is worth the extra money if you got a really good deal on the 235. My vert that I just did a 240 would have been at least 7k more not worth it for me at least.

I ordered the M240i - because I couldn't find a M235i 6spd to buy when I was looking for my 2 series.

I was kind of in the same boat as you. I picked up my 235 about a month before 240 hit my dealership. Yeah it's gonna higher rated HP and TQ but honestly speaking the 235 is a goddamn rocket and N55 is a very dependable and capable engine. So yeah I'm very happy with my choice. Like somebody above said you'll always have some "remorse", but trust me it's a heck of a car and you will love every moment of it

Gotta agree with every one else. The power difference is negligible. Styling is identical. The n55 is well sorted. You shouldn't have any remorse at all.

It's never a good idea to get an engine in the first year of production. There's always some sorting out do that wasn't done pre-production. As Mike Miller says:today, final R&D is done in the dealership service bays.

Good point, but this is isn't the first year for the B58. It's been around since the 2016 340i.

Bought a 16' M235i in March. Could have waited a few months and ordered a 17' but I had already driven the M235i at PDC and fell in love with it. The N55 is proven, velvety smooth and pulls like a freight train all the way to redline. I know there is at least one post on here from someone who went from N55 to B58 and complained that the B58 was too quiet.

i got my 2016 m235 6 weeks before 240 release and fought the same doubts. there will always be the "next better" but i never looked back. i love my car and will for quite some time. no regrets and i am one who constantly regrets. besides we have 4 years of everything covered but tires. can't get that with a 2017. you got one sweet ride.

You need to pay for tires, alignment and anything you break but everything else is covered.

Warranty Years?

When does BMW drop the warranty in years covered from 4 to 3?

Warranty remains the same for 2016 vs 2017

The only thing that changes is free service. From the BMW USA site
"When you own The Ultimate Driving MachineŽ, you should get the service to match. For model year 2015 or 2016 vehicles sold or leased by an authorized BMW center on or after July 1, 2014, the BMW Maintenance Program is provided for the first 4 years or 50,000 miles (non-transferable2) whichever comes first."

For 2017, free maintenance drops to 3/36000 and it presumably is transferable to future owners since the "non-transferable" statement is now missing.

Warranty for 2017 models remains 4/50K, same as prior years, and is transferable.

2017 also EXCLUDES brakes which is the highest price consumable repair. You probably wouldn't get there in 3 years but still that's a big number to factor in.

The 340i has the B58B30M0 320HP/332 lbˇft version of the B58
the M235i has the B58B30O0 335HP/369 lbˇft version.

Dunno if that is only a software tweak or something more.
Also dunno if that could result in any differences as it relates to long term reliability.
Time will tell.

Probably software as the MPPK gets the 340i to similar performance numbers.
