Is there a way to get the car to always start in Sport mode?

On a 228i. Thanks!

Not on a 228i or any other BMW. Check the coding and DIY section for the 100 or so other times this question has been asked.

Gotta ask - are you not getting enough hate from the neighbors and wanting a louder start up? (other than this, coding seems more trouble than just hitting the button as you put her into gear). You could try sending the ASD signal out to one of those big party-sized Bluetooth speakers instead

Maynard,
I have to say that I totally get the poster's wonderful/desire. Nothing to do with neighbors...I just drive my m235 in Sport 90% of the time and would like to start out that way without always having to hit that button and then see the screen change. You figure it would be easy enough to code in--just like it is coded to put heated seats back on if you just made a short stop.

I just got in the habit of pressing start then immediately pushing up on the sport button. I really treat sport like comfort, and sport+ like sport. Comfort and Eco Pro are dead to me.

I usually turn "DSC-off" while I wait for the RPMs to drop to normal idle. Would be nice to code DSC out, altogether, though... I've heard from some members, here, who have done it due to the ABS intervention with their LSD's.

First world issue, no doubt. But a man with options, is always a better man

you can't code out DSC but yo u can turn off the active diff that's enabled on DSC OFF mode

Idk how you guys can stand the fake exhaust drone all the time. I like to use sport when i'm driving in a sporty manner, or just sometimes being that guy slowly cruising around city streets. For my actual commute it gets too annoying. Same goes for the shifting when I'm stuck in traffic.

Correction: I use Sport+ or all off if i'm really driving hard.

Set Sport to chassis only and, if you have the 8AT, flip it into Sport. Then you have the heavier steering, stiffer chassis and the more responsive throttle without all the silly noise—especially those pops and burbles on deceleration.

Oh I will be doing this, for sure! You can feel the intervention when trying to modulate the throttle in a "drift" scenario. Not that I drift, for the sake drifting, but the car powers out hard in 2/3rd gear, and there are times the ABS intervenes immediately when you lift off the throttle. This MUST stop !

It's strange you can code to start Eco-pro mode, but not sport. Perhaps instead you could code what Comfort mode is, so that it is equivalent to sport mode.

Actually, CAFE credits for the manufacturer is the reason.

CAFE is the same nonsense, ideologically driven drivel that serves no purpose other than getting ICE vehicles off the road so the Little People can't 'pollute' anymore.

The political debate on its merit is a separate issue, but fuel economy and emissions are not the same. They are different requirements and metrics, intended to achieve different goals, and under the jurisdiction of two different agencies. Having the car not start in Sport is a fuel economy rating (CAFE) issue.

The new CAFE standards will not only improve energy efficiency of the Nation’s fleet, but also:

Reduce our petroleum consumption

Increase the availability of alternative fuel vehicles

Promote the advancement of innovative technologies

Lower greenhouse gas emissions both helping to mitigate climate change and improve air quality
Like I said, same bullshit reasoning from politicians (who don't drive themselves) to get ICE off the road. Thankfully we voted to throw the ideologues out for a few years at least

The improvement in fuel economy and reduction in emissions are both outcomes, but even reading that link establishes the difference in the programs and regulatory agencies which led BMW to their engineering decision on power train calibration at start-up for certification, which is CAFE-based.

As to the populist, anti-government paranoia currently in vogue under the psychopath-in-chief, I think there’s another thread for that, so no need to bicker here about it.

Now the guy who lives in Texas, which just experienced the worst hurricane in its history, a proven direct consequence of climate change (the Gulf has heated up and now sustains higher velocity hurricanes), is complaining about emissions standards.
If you like pollution, move to Beijing for a while, where the emissions are so thick this time of year that everyone has to wear a mask. But your BMW will cost you at least twice as much.
