Factory closed / cannot order :(

I've been in the market to order an M240i convertible, but I was informed by my sales associate that the factory in Germany is closed until further notice due to Corona

what a bummer!

Hopefully they wont stop producing the 2020 model any time soon

When I ordered a coupe a couple of months back, the CA mentioned that 2020 production was ending in June and allocations were limited.

Hopefully you can get a 2021 and there will be more standard options included and more color choices.

Garage List
Product guides and bulletins for MY21 models have largely been all released with SOP stated for July. If there was any uncertainty, I believe this info would be communicated so as or right now, if you're looking for a MY21, July should still be a good with deliveries happening in August.

But really, who knows with things still uncertain despite that some cities and countries have started to open up a bit,

Last weekend I got an Insta post from BMW NA that all NA dealerships are open.
I emailed a rep to place an order on a 2021 M240i on Monday, submitted my application yesterday.

By rep, do you mean dealer?

Yes, but, I work with a broker. I am assuming they are working with the same dealership they did for the 2019 M240i. I submitted my order guide and application.

My 2020 m240 was in short supply according to dealer. The factory closed for a time and now its time to build the 2021. Isn’t the 2 series going through a model design change in 2021 ? Is it now being built in Mexico? I don’t think you will find many on dealers lot.

The next 2 series is a 2022 model. The current model will still be built for 2021.

That long? My dealer told me most orders were currently taking about 10 weeks.

That does seem quite long. I ordered mine in July and it’s on the boat.

As I understand it, 8-10 weeks from the allocation and allocations are hard to come by for the M240i convertible. I see no reason for the dealer to be intentionally giving me an exaggerated delivery date.

I didn't realize it was more difficult to get an allocation for a convertible. The sales advisor I spoke with didn't think that would be an issue for a coupe. I have an additional $1000 credit available from participating in the summer test drive event last week, but the car has to arrive by early January. He suggested I order towards the end of September to use the credit and take advantage of the December incentives, which are likely to be better than what is currently offered for a 2021.

It would be nice if it comes sooner than later. Good luck. Update us if you get different information from your dealer.

I finally (after waiting two months since I sold my 2004 E46 vert) got an allocation for a 2021 M240i xDrive. I still don't know the status of the the build date. Should hear something next week.

Did you hear anything. I ordered my M240i convertible on 8/22 and have yet to get any dates though I've been told I have a November allocation

I am going to call today. Looking back at the original e-mail when he told me he had finally gotten the allocation that it was an October build for a November delivery, but he never mentioned that when I met with him to place the order. Glad I am not the only one chomping at the bit for a 2021.

As I wrote in another thread, I reached out to the dealer and the sales guy was shocked that I really don't have an allocation! Just a request for one. Sigh. I was angry then, now I just hope before next summer I can get the car. It's really perfect for my niche (more importantly, my wife and I agree).

I'm going to follow up with the dealer this weekend or Monday, but here is excerpt from the last email I received:

"So I checked on the status, and we are NOT underway with the build. We've submitted a request for an allocation, which is what was showing up. I've reached out to ####, the BMW Area Manager to help me expedite the allocation. As it shows for the moment, there are not any M240s being built for the US market at the moment. That said, #### is the man that may be able to help me get this production underway. I've involved the recently appointed new car manager as well, and we will be working with the Area manager to try and get your BMW into production."

Fingers crossed.
