Watch as an M235i Racing holds up a Radical SR3 on a tourist ride
At around 5:35, a wild M235i Racing appears. He holds up the SR3 for a few turns, then yields to the king of the ring. The whole lap is worth a watch. The driver pulls a 7:24 BtG time with traffic, and without breaking much of a sweat.

Great run, I wouldn't expect the 2 to hold up, even in race trim. Those SR3's are something else! I've recently been running the SR3 in iRacing, and it's a ton of fun.

What kind of wheel do you run? I picked up a T300 Ferrari Alcantara Edition (30cm Alcantara wrapped wheel, T3PA pedals) back around xmas. Really changed sim-racing for me (yet again).

I run a Fanatec Clubsport groupo, never had anything else so I'm a bit spoiled. But I'd figure go all out to get the most out of the software. I've since upgraded the twin motor setup to 2x Bruhle motors from Germany, and it's about as good as it's gonna get, now. This is the rig I'm heavy into iRacing for online competition and for fun I usually run Assetto Corsa hot laps @'ring in either the M235iRacing or Lotus 240R . I find the tire model in iRacing is still superior to anything else out there. That said, Assetto Corsa is pretty damn great, and fun! Haven't tried P-Cars yet but I'll get to it soon I'm sure.

I've always wanted to jump into a sim and try it out...but could never find one around. What's a setup like that run for all in? Not to mention that video was nuts... |

Basic Rig A console-based rig with quality components, but doesn't break the bank. You can build a rig cheaper than this, but this is a good entry point, IMO. $365 PS4 $20 ProjectCARS Game $470 T300RS Ferrari Alcantara Edition (decent wheel with three pedals) $400 "Rig" (wheel stand, pedal mount, seat, etc) $500 Flat Screen TV $99 TV Mount Total: $1,854 I don't have a full on rig yet. I just happen to have an L-desk that works well for gaming. On the "return" portion of my desk, I have a 46" flat screen, and my T300RS mounts to the desk easily. I just lock out the recline on my Mira office chair and game at my desk. I'm thinking of building my own rig out of PVC, but I may just go the Playseat route later this year.

You can spend much more....
High-end Rig (non-motion) This is a high-end, but non-motion, non-commercial rig. $1,500 Gaming PC $60 Racing game (there are many) $600 Fanatec ClubSport Wheel Base $400 Fanatec ClubSport Porsche 918 RSR Wheel $300 Fanatec ClubSport Pedals $200 Fanatec ClubSport Shifter $800 Gaming Cockpit $300 Display mount add-on $2,100 3x Widescreen Displays Total: $6,260 when you start getting in to motion rigs, you're looking at $10,000 and up. There are $65k rigs out there. At that point, you can go racing! Although, not for long. Even running something like a Spec Miata can cost $65k a year when you factor in consumables. It's really hard to beat sim racing for racing on the cheap.

Yea my rig, all in after the motor upgrade I'm sitting around $8-9k usd.
You can build a PVC DIY rig for under $300, a budget PC for under $500, then just get an Oculus Rift and a wheel setup and you're good to go. I can't wait until the Rift hits it's next wave of development. Game changer!

I agree that you can get by on a lot less, but from what I've heard, the Oculus blow up a $500 PC. They require/recommend a GeForce 970 or better, which is $300 for the graphics card alone. You're really looking at a $1,200 starting point for a PC cpable of running an Oculus.

I'm running my triple 27" monitors on iRacing, basically full graphics settings off of a single GTX780 standard non Ti. Don't listen to them!
My setup consists of: Humanracing GT chassis (has platform for 4dof motion add-on which is another $10k) Sparco R333 reclining seat, works nice for F1 seating position as it reclines Fanatec Clubsport wheel, shifter, pedals F1 wheel and BMW GT2 wheel Custom DSD button boxes Triple monitor stand by US sim rig fabricator 3x 27" LED monitors @60hz Alienware PC, GTX780 single card Buttkicker Gamer2 transducer x2 Then it comes down to the small stuff.

I run I racing with the oculus rift. It is spot on like driving. When I go to a new track I know every inch of it.
I could never get the monitors to feel right. I love putting people on the rift for the first time, when they crash most actually tense up and some go into a fetal like pose, hysterical. Your brain knows it's not real but your reflexes can't help it. |
