Saw the biggest poser car to date yesterday. We were visiting my wife's friend in NJ. They're telling us about how much of an asshat their neighbor is. We walk down to go to dinner and I see a blue E92 parked outside.
The car is de-badged (of course) has a CSL style bootlid, M3 diffusser, quad exhaust, M-Sport front bumper, A/M vented hood, rolled fenders, dropped, rolled fenders on 17" OEM wheels, stock brakes with studs and blued lug-nuts. I look inside and it's a 6AT not DCT. I'm like WTF? I asked them if that was his car and they're like yeah that's his M3. I'm like that's not an M3 and rattled off 5 reasons how I know it's not an M3 and it's an N52 to boot. (6AT for one, small brakes etc). They couldn't believe it wasn't an M3 because that is what the kid told everyone. Of course it was raining and dark when we got back from dinner so no pix.

Just because its not an M3 doesn't mean its a bad car.
Entire track run groups are non M cars and will spank most M cars on track and street. ie: Spec e30, Spec e36/46, 330 Why is he a poser? He likes BMW's. He put alot of work into the car. Maybe he runs HPDE's with it. Maybe he goes to car shows. The M's are just a factory tuned car. You can build a car better than an M car yourself if you do the engineering and research. Not singling you out, but alot of folks need to understand that because it doesn't have the M badge, you never know what has been done to the car.
