Boost leak or lack of belly pan?
So I installed the ER FMIC, charge pipe, and turbo to intercooler pipe yesterday. I didn't want to over tighten the clamps but thought they were on pretty tight. I went to test drive the car, without the belly pan thinking if there was a boost leak it would suck to take 22 screws out again. At low speed the car felt fine, but at 40mph I got this flapping sound coming from the driver side. I'm pretty sure its a boost leak, but I thought I'd get other people's opinions. The video isn't mine, but it's the exact sound. Boost leak or belly pan flapping?
The car definitely feels underpowered, so I'm about 90% sure its a boost leak. Just wondering if other folks had driven without the belly pan and heard similar sounds. |

Charge pipe the aftermarket ones are difficult to seal properly - that's the first thing I'd check.

If there was a boost leak, and depending on the type of leak, you should get a CEL, drivetrain malfunction, or atleast a code.
The belly pan you speak of is nothing more than a functional debris blanket. It keeps shit from kicking up into the engine compartment. It has nothing to do with your turbo. You swapped three components that all have to do with the turbo, TIC, Intercooler, and IC. If there is a leak, i suspect if might've been caused by touching these components When i was on the track i had the IC silicone coupler give out, and the car developed a CEL / drivetrain malfunction because it wouldn't hold boost. Are you sure its not the other trim lips that are towards the front left and right of the car that are flapping. A boost leak sounds like air, hissing at you. |

Lol I did this too.
The rear of the bellypan holds on the next undercarriage panel as well. Without the belly pan on the next panel will flop up and down. I would recommend not driving until you put the belly pan back on as the other panel will hit the ground and get scraped up |

The other under panel is probably flapping around from air getting pushed up into it. If you have a way to take logs it will show a boost leak as well. Could be both...

It was both. That heat shield on the transmission cover scrapped on the road last night. I also had a small boost leak at the charge pipe coupling. Now the car is flappy free and pulls strong again.

I probably have a boost leak as well. How much did you tighten the charge pipe coupler clamps? Also, how was the alignment between the upper and lower pipes? I think mine is slightly misaligned. |

I tightened them as much as I could, about an inch of thread showing when possible. The connections at the couplers should be flush, with the c-clip in the groove on the intercooler connection

On a side note that belly pan helps the radiator and fmic work more efficiently reducing pressure loss under the hood. So it’s more than just a so called debris collector and rock protector.

I'd imagine it sloths out the airflow under the car as well. Don't forget today it also functions as an exceptional socket and small too catcher.

ceedawg . But it will not cause a boost leak, and that was my point. Soo sensitive
jmwilson125 I've dropped a few screws and tidbits and that thing kept them safe for me |
