M240i Instrument Cluster
I just picked up my second BMW, a 2018 M240i to go along with my 1984 E30. They are generations apart, but it's interesting that one of the common features between the two is the fuel consumption meter in the instrument cluster. Must be a BMW thing, but always seemed to me to be a silly feature. I'm not that interested in knowing my real time fuel consumption and sometimes I really don't want to know what it is (or isn't). I would rather they retained the engine temp meter, which to me is more useful.

Those LCI rims look amazing on a black M240i, jeez!
As for the missing engine temp, yeah, it's annoying. I "fixed" it by getting a JB4 and as soon as I'm back in my home country, I'm switching to BM3 for realtime engine info.

You can configure (turn on/off) the center display features, including oil temp, instant fuel consumption, etc.
The on/off menu is in the center stack.

Thanks for the tip guys. I'm just getting used to how sophisticated it is - not like the old E30.

Yeah, I put it in eco mode the other day and put the driving advice option up on the idrive. Found myself trying to get 5 stars and taking every bit of advice it gave 😂

Pre-LCI it can be coded, but it's not functional

I've started to try to remember to use eco pro anytime I'm on highway in cruise - you don't notice the wimpiness, and it does get you about 5% better mileage. And the best part is on the highway having it repeatedly 'advise' you to 'reduce speed'. Out west the limits are up around 80 - and yes, you can set cruise to triple digits (or so I hear )

Also you can go to eco settings and change the limit before it asks you to reduce speed. |

In my m235i vert, I found that eco-mode at typical Texas rural freeway speeds (speed limits of 75, with traffic often flowing at 5 to 10 over that) didn't make much difference. Is it different for the m240i?
It may be my imagination, but sport mode seems to have a bigger impact on mileage on the 2018 240 vert compared to the 2015 235 vert. |

I think it is only about a 5% diff, so not dramatic but adds up over time. And to be honest, half the time I forget to do it. Down side is that I hate it in actual traffic because you get no throttle braking and run up other cars if you just let off, that and when I forget I'm in eco mode and it shuts off at the thruway toll I freak out.
