Unhappy Broken Passenger seat motor.

. Does anyone know if the seats in the M235 are the same as any of the other seats in the Bmw lineup. I had a friend in the car and he pushed the seat a bit further than I usually do and it made a popping sound. Which upon further investigating showed I had broke the plastic piece connecting the bottom of the passenger seat due to an object being rolled over on it. I really don’t feel like buying a whole new seat from BMW. I was told to look at just getting a motor, but the motor works for the left side, but not the right. Can i fix this? Any options or help would be awesome. Here’s the broken part. The seat moves on the left track but not right.

Hey,

Parts may be the same with the F2x lineup but not sure for the rest of the fleet.
The good news is you can get the motors independently from BMW. The bad news is that the snapped plastic part only comes with the base of the seat as a whole. From what I can see, that part needs a replacement for sure but I cannot speak for the motors themselves as I am not certain of their salvageability without function checking them to see if they work or the inner mechanism is damaged. From your description of its functionality, it may also need a replacement.
Sorry to hear this, hope it gets fixed soon.

Best Wishes,
Omer

Why would this not be a warranty item?

I was thinking the same thing. This is a CLASSIC case of volunteer no information, just take it in and state simply "the seat doesn't work" and let them figure it out / fix it. You're not a professional, you don't know what happened or why it broke. Just nicely ask your SA to schedule some time for very nonspecific seat malfunction.

It's a 2015 model, isn't it that out of warranty?

Shouldn't be assuming he didn't get the car as soon as they were available in fall of 2014. I have a 2016 as an example that is only 13 months into the warranty period.

I'd second the advice to just bring it in and see if they'll fix it for you.

And just curious about what type of item can do this?

This just happened to a friends E92, and was due to a Swell bottle that his daughter left on the floor, in the rear, and rolled underneath the seat. The next time a passenger attempted to move it all the way back (was me this time) we heard a crunch and seize sound, not good. Was able to get it back to a neutral setting until we can figure something out, but it was all due to the bottle preventing the seat from mobility, thus stripping the PLASTIC rod that travels through the seat motor which moves the seat forward, and back. I suppose if it weren't plastic you could do a lot more damage, but shotty to say the least..

I'll have to watch that, I often have water bottles rolling around behind the seat. Thanks.

Sorry for the late response. The car has about 33K, bought in late 2014 and is still under warrantee. I didn't notice the object (GoPro mount) under the seat until it was brought in. I don't think that they noted it so I might look at taking it to another BMW dealership and seeing what they say. They said since the object wasn't BMW's fault that it was my responsibility. Do you think if I brought it to another dealership they would know thatI had tried at another?

Helps to have a good relationship with your service department.

I once snapped off my gas pedal when I was trying to remove the stick on M Performance stainless one. Managed to drive the car over there and literally said "my gas pedal broke" and it was fixed within the hour no questions asked.

Go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of the car's VIN. Hit enter and book mark the page. Drop down to seats. You'll see the parts listed there.

So, I had this exact same issue..except it happened to both of my front seats (crazy, I know). Once was done by a car wash attendant (water bottle), the other by a friend riding in my passenger seat (umbrella). Did you try another dealership with any success? If so, I might do the same. I just went to my usual dealer and they gave me the same answer yours gave. But I was quoted like $1000-2000+ for each seat frame, so obviously I want to get it covered by them.

I completely agree. I am going to take it to another dealership one of these next few weeks (clean obviously, no junk around the seats) and see if they are able to do anything about it. I also thought about possibly getting the competition seats put in instead if they are already charging me an arm and a leg. Does anyone know if this is possible or has been done?
