Sometimes I carry firewood in my M2 and I get splinters in the trunk carpet that are hard to get out of the carpet. I also put my ice scraper back there and if there is road salt on it, it's a PIA to clean out of the carpet. So I'm looking into making a simple liner/mat with cutouts for the net and tie-downs.

The liner would be fabric and machine washable, so you can easily pull it out and stick it in the washing machine. Likely held down with velcro at the edges. And I'd have a source for you to pick whatever fabric/pattern you want.

Would there be any interest in something like this?

Already have one. It is an exercise or yoga matt. Made a paper template and cut is out with scissors. One hidden advantage is that it soes not slide no velcro needed. Ours is blue.
