Dinan exhaust. My issue is only with the tips. Tips are fine protrusion length wise, but there's about a two finger gap between bottom of my diffuser and the top of the exhaust tip. Driving me nuts. Thinking maybe the hangers are too elastic, but they are fairly new (roughly 19k miles on them). Wondering if maybe they got stretched during install. Don't think cutting more pipe is the answer but I'm open to suggestions.
Here are some pics for reference. |

The problem does not come from the muffler or from hangers. It comes from the assembly of all the line or pipes clamps. Go under the car, unscrew the clamp which link the midpipe and the muffler and turn a little the midpipe. When everything will find the proper place, the muffler will go up and your tips will be properly fitted with the diffuser openings.

I have the same issue. I bought the car with the muffler on an always thought it was installed wrong.
A shorter polyurethane exhaust hanger looks like will help. Also maybe moving the hanger on the car back about an inch to help stop the tips from sticking so far out. |

looks perfect, Just wondering if that limited gap will cause the infamous "melting" issues.
Hope not, because I prefer that look. Last edited by emtrey; 05-13-2018 at 10:31 AM.. |

I hope not as well! I don’t track my car but I will be happy to be the guinea pig. I had it mocked up to this same gap by improperly using the stock hangers as I mentioned a few posts back and had no issues after a month.

They made the tips sit perfect but my muffler was hitting the heat shield above it. I think my bracket from my m diffuser needs to be bent to allow more clearance. I just gave up I'm going to take it to a shop to get it straightened out. Haha

Did you guys cut stock at the dimple? Wondering if leaving an extra 1/4" or so would pivot things up on order to have the tips sit higher.
I ask because when I did the MPE on the wagon a few weeks ago I noticed there was a fair bit of play to rotate the whole assembly to get the tips up in the air. Also when the shop did my MPE on the 2 the tips were too high and it was because they left the stock pipe too long and trimmed a bit to get things to rotate down.

You might be correct. My indie mechanic said anything he looked at to raise the system looked like it would cause the muffler to hit the heat shield so he left it alone. He said the best way he saw was to take it to a muffler shop that had a jig to bend stainless steel and bend the hangers a little. Bottom line, for me. I am done worrying about this. Its not the best design by Dinan IMHO but it sounds great and unlikely to be noticed by anyone other than BMW "addicts". My "anal" son just looked at the car and said--those pipes are awesome and loved the sound of the system windows open or closed. Never said a word about the "gap" |
