Fabspeed Motorsport Sport Cat Downpipe Review

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Although I am new to the BMW scene as far as owning one, I didn't waste any time getting some modifications done.

I had only had the car for about a week when I reached out to John B at Fabspeed Motorsport, located in Fort Washington, PA. John was extremely helpful in helping me decide which downpipe to choose and kept me well informed throughout the entire process from purchasing to installation. He assured me that my new baby was in good hands. Since this car is my daily driver, the turnaround time was crucial since I needed to get to and from work. John made sure that the car was finished in the allotted time.

While still wanting to keep my warranty on the vehicle, John and I decided that it was best to go with Fabspeed's Sport Cat Downpipe. This downpipe has been on my car for 300+ miles already and I couldn't be happier. In Sport and Sport+ modes, with the exhaust flaps all the way open, the car sounds great! It has enough sound to satisfy my racecar needs but also not too loud where it is grabbing a cops attention.

And I can't forget the most important piece of it all; the power gains. Since my car is only about 5 weeks old now, I assure you that it is 100% stock, not even a drop-in filter. When they strapped the car down on the dyno bone stock, it had an impressive even 300whp/320tq. I knew that the downpipe was going to help make a good chunk of power but I was not expecting this. From simply installing their Sport Cat downpipe, not only am I not throwing any CEL's or voiding any warranty, I was able to gain an extra 30whp and 30tq, bringing my cars capabilities to 330whp/350tq; and boy does it rip! It is a completely different car from one simple modification.

Overall, I could not be happier with my purchase from the product itself to the customer service. John B and the guys at Fabspeed Motorsports are nothing but respectful and intelligent guys with customer service that really go above and beyond. I HIGHLY recommend this shop and any of their products.

Awesome writeup! I could not agree with you more. The Fabspeed Catted dp made my car transform and wake up for damn sure! 3rd gear pulls like 2nd did and 4th like 3rd! So much power and increase in throttle response and everything not to mention the intoxicating sounds while paired up with the MPE! Overall I gave the product and Fabspeed a 5 star rating. I still can't get over how much of a change in performance the car has just from one simple bolt on mod, its truly amazing!

Haha yea I get love every now and then from true car enthusiasts/friends. And if you give Fabspeed a call at (215) 646-4945, ask for John B. He will guide you through anything you need to get done and answer any questions you may have.

We can craft anything out metal that you desire and tune it appropriately. You're close enough to where we can make this happen, shoot me a PM and let's do it!

Not a problem, it's the least I could do for the great customer service and guidance John provided.

Just spoke to Travis at Fab, and I think this is going to be awesome. They said they are going to get a solid game plan together with me. Catted Sport Back Custom DP for the GT. Sick!!

Voiding a warranty is a weird thing. No, BMW will not cover your exhaust system if you have an aftermarket downpipe installed. However, it does not "void the warranty" in full, and, in reality, nothing does.

The way this usually works is that only the system effected actually gets voided. For example, you put the Fabspeed pipe in, and then your windows all of a sudden don't want to roll down anymore. Your windows would still be covered under warranty, because it has nothing to do with the downpipe.

On the other hand, if you have an exhaust leak (and put the downpipe in), BMW would (most likely) not cover any repairs.

Liquidpaper is right, what was explained to me is that the only warranty I would be voiding is the Federal 8 or 10 year 80,000 CAT warranty that every car has or something (apparently, did not know this). SO, if the CAT were to go bad and throw a CEL and I brought it in for service, they obviously would NOT service it...good thing to keep the stock downpipe, throw it back on, then take it in.

Okay, guess I have to be the villian and call BS on the 30/30 increase without a tune. Sorry, but that is very wishful thinking. If you said 12-15Whp, then I'd say that is possible. 30/30...nope! FAB is pulling your leg being a newbie.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but they can't even come up with specific performance gains on their own product listing. I'd be leery of those guys.

Believe it, brother!

This was our dyno run on our development vehicle:

We saw gains of 21whp and 36 ft/lbs at 3,000 RPM, those are the max gains. Peak gains were 12.75whp and 27.73 ft/lbs of torque.

Anyone is welcome to come in for a dyno run and / or tune at any time. We're very transparent and our experienced tuner will talk your ear off about any subject.

Call us any time!

Sorry but still calling BS. The listed gains across many vehicles on your site are very suspect. Your stuff looks pretty, but I'm betting that's about it, aside from some minor actual performance gains.

You're not bursting any bubble for me. I know the truth. Just cause it's my first BMW doesn't mean I don't know cars. Think what you want man, to each is own but numbers don't lie and I've been following Fabspeed for years and they've always churned out great products. Good luck with your build.

The most important thing is for you to be satisfied with what you think you got for gains. I'm not gonna say ignorance is bliss, but just hate to see someone deceived by unscrupulously optimistic tuners. You've been warned, Bro!
