You can play the "how do you justify that kind of power" game all the way back to a Scion FRS. It all depends on what you want out of the car. I think there's a solid value proposition in both cars.

It's a marketing bullet point. I doubt many buyers use it at all. Those that do try it out once, then remember that they're burning up a $1200 set of tires every time they do it

Don't forget that there is a fairly large hipster-douchebag demographic for BMW to target to increase market share.
