This really is bad news. I wonder if the reason my order sat in Production, from 3/31 for almost 3 weeks was because of them waiting for the part? I hope so because I really want this car. Can I assume that if your order is delivered to your dealership complete before you have new new car, you'll still take it?

No. That "ship sailed already" - so to speak...
I am trying to get a convertible for this summer.
For me - getting RWD/6SP/European/convertible was more important than what brand it was.

This will definitely not be here in the next 6-8 weeks, considering they have no idea about a possible scheduling for "completion" and shipping, and also considering how many of these are probably waiting in Germany - for the European market, and other markets.
Add 4-5 weeks it takes to get a car to Toronto....
If I really wanted the 240 - I by now I would've switched to the LCI (2018).

No. Sorry. As much I wanted this car, and even bought some accessories for it already, I'm done with the 240. Trying to get it out my head now.

We will still have the 330, for a BMW, but looking at something different completely.

First time (eventual) Bimmer owner and poster here. I haven't heard of any recent releases to the dealer. I checked online inventory at several dealers last week and saw nothing new that I hadn't viewed while checking options during orig order.

We placed our order on 2/21, production began on 3/7, and fast forward to arrival stateside VDC during weekend of 4/2. After the projected delivery date of 4/7-8 didn't happen, my obsessive "cyber-stalking" of this vehicle and it's delay from the previous several weeks was launched into the next dimension! I thought it fell off the train or the ship hit one of those rogue icebergs and caved in a quarter panel!

The CA called last week and gave limited info, but gave "new" delivery date of 5/2 (bracing for severe disappointment when that doesn't happen). I can only hope....

I'm sure I'll have amnesia concerning this very disappointing ordering experience when I get my hands on that M steering wheel. Yeah it's only the M Sport pkg with a few xtras but it'll be a blast nonetheless.

Many thanks to all the posters and crabu2 for posting the factory fire clip. It eased my nightmares of significant damage in shipping; although the jury is still out on that.

Ordered and stuck in VDC purgatory:

I was on the WWL site checking to see if my car had been loaded and did a partial VIN search... And guess what...

I found a CONVERTIBLE built on 4/8 that was loaded onto the Patriot, on 4/22, being sent to Halifax. If there's no VDC in Canada, that mean this car is complete... I'm almost thinking your order might have just missed the boat..

Here's the VIN is you're at all interested in checking.

I spoke to BMW Customer Service yesterday and was told my car was expected at the dealer on 5/8.

I spoke to my sales rep today and was told specifically that they had confirmed with the port that parts were available and my car was waiting for the repair.

Hopefully that's the case.

That's excellent news... now we just need to see a delivery to your dealer on 5/8 for confirmation.

Got my fingers crossed here!!

Remember, due to the boot cover part saga, I bailed on the 230 that has been sitting in Newark since early March and flipped instead to this M240i. Will definitely post pics once I pick it up.

I'm feeling more confident that the missing boots have become available...

Based on what I've heard... Canada does NOT do port installs so if a convertible is going there, it has to be a complete car... look at this.. and this isn't the only one I found..

Look at the build date... 02-02-2017

Look at the ship date.. it just happened 2 weeks ago...

A Feb build date, with a late April ship date, on a convertible going to Canada.. Sounds to me like the boot is on...

Just heard from my dealer, and it seems like anyone with a car at the port is screwed. BMW issued a new bulletin yesterday. Reads as follows:

"The US will receive it's initial supply of convertible top covers the first week of June and continue to receive covers through August."

Not sure what I'm doing now.

WTF? If that's true and your/our order is sitting at Port, you might as well cancel and order a 2018.

My car is to arrive at Port on 5/8.. I guess I'll know by the 10th or so if mine was built with or without the part.

I have a copy of the actual bulletin, so yeah, it's true.

I'm definitely considering the 2018 option.

Here's what I don't understand.. I know the Peugeot 3008 got affected by this, but it seems they're able to get most orders completed and delivered within 10 weeks from order.

Why is it Peugeot can get the parts they need but not BMW? BMW's management really that bad?

BTW, what ever happened to your rep flat out telling you the part was available? Was he/she making crap up to get you to go away?

My guess? This is only affecting a small number of cars and thus a low priority. Peugeot had to completely stop building that model if my understanding is correct. I guarantee if this was impacting 3-series sedans it would have been resolved by now.

The bulletin is attached.

Hey crabu2 - just a quick note here...
Yes, it's true - we don't do port installs, but it turns out that my car never got shipped out either.
It was "completed" (probably without cover) and sitting collecting dust in some parking lot in Germany. Car was completed on April 6th.

With these new delays that I just noticed today in this thread - I'm kind'a glad I canceled my order. There is no way I would get the car before early July (when my "new new" car arrives). Even if the car gets fixed/completed sometime early summer - it still needs to be shipped across the ocean.

Hope you get your part quickly and don't have to wait too much at the port!

Zed,

As you probably already know.. I've been going crazy tracking my car.. I've also been looking for convertible deliveries to Canada since they can't be completed at a Canadian port. And I can tell you, there are 2 series convertibles being sent to Canada. Below are ones that have been delivered.

I've also looked at other ones currently in transit and there there too.. Oh.. the lists I've been looking at are all 230s because I have the VIN sequence based on mine.. A couple of the Canadian deliveries I looked at were built in Feb and March and they're just not in transit.. So I'm guessing the parts are trickling in or they wouldn't have shipped.

If you have your old VIN, you might want to check the WWL site to see if it might be on a ship..

Hey crabu2,

How do you get the status numbers? I called the genius number and they said mine will end production on May 9, but no mention of a status number. Thanks!

Ask your dealer for a copy of Vehicle Inquiry report. You'll see the status codes lists.

When I spoke with the BMW Genius for a status of my order, they'd tell me, but without the code. When I asked for the status code, I was told they haven't been allowed to give the actual code for a year or so. No biggie... Just ask your CA for the VIR and you'll see them.
