Square cut vs slant exhaust tips

Hey what is your guys preference, and does anyone have pictures of slant tips?

Personally I like the square cut look, but recently I found a tip that meets all my criteria except that it's a slant cut.

Personally I always liked the square look but I recently switched to a slanted tip and I love it. I think it adds to the aggression of the rear end.

Thanks for the input. I can't see the image though. Also I'm glad that I measured my tips. I wanted to go one size bigger and I thought I read the Mperformance tips were 90mm somewhere. They are 80mm.

It took me forever to find a 2.5" to 4" tip. Good thing I checked. 4" would be too big imo. I guess i'm looking for 3.5" (89 MM)

I think 3.5 would be perfect, are there any brands that make 3.5in that fit the Mperf exhaust? Not really sure where to start looking..

I pulled a caliper on the exhaust outlet and got an outside diameter of 2 3/8" which is about 61 mm. I would think that a 2.5" to 3.5" clamp on or weld on would fit. I think some metric ones come in 63 mm inlet.

BMS has a 3.5" tip, bit it says not for use with mperformance exhaust. I'm not much of an eBay or AliExpress guy, but I might say eff be it and try one of those stainless tips. If it looks good and fits great, if not it won't be super expensive and eBay seems to have a good return policy. Try "BMW exhaust tip" in the eBay search and start scrolling.

Image fixed. Note this is on a tuningwerk exhaust and the tips were purchased on Amazon. Didn't like how the BMS ones weren't sharp edged if that makes sense. They fit perfectly in the M performance diffusion. Only tips I've seen noticeably larger are the Meisterschaft ones.

Yeah I have the same taste. I really like the mperformance, I just wish that they were larger. I like the sharp edge, but also like the dual wall.

These are the two I am considering

2.5" Inlet / 3.5" Outlet Chrome Stainless Steel Adjustable Exhaust Muffler Tip https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LWQ9HVM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_WWR7yb3D7SS0Y (I would prob tap these and use a set screw)

Fedar 2.5" Inlet 3.5" Outlet 8" Long Dual Wall Slant Angle Cut Exhaust Tailpipe Tip https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IU7ET9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.ZR7ybFHRFXAV (not sure if these would be too long, or if I could just slide them further over exhaust pipe mperformance are around 6")

Ended up ordering these. I'll see how they took and post pictures once I receive.

*Correction* inlet is not 2 1/2", the pipe flares out which I did not see untill I removed my tip. Looked close to 2 5/8". Looks like I'm shipping the 2.5" to 3.5" back.

JMWilson125: So are you saying the OD of the OEM (not MPE) exhaust pipes is more than 2.5 inches because they are flaired? Have you found a tip that fits?

.

I should have specified mpe is 2 5/8,. I have not found a tip that fits and I have have given up looking for now ☹️. The 2.5" tips I do have now look sweet though. I'll have to send them back though.

I went with the BMS 3.5" slant cut for my M235xi ragtop.
The OEM 3"ers came off fairly easily and these slipped in perfectly.

Those look perfect. If you don't mind me asking where did you get them done custom. And was the price pretty fair?

I have a Muffler Delete with a J-Pipe to eliminate drone. About $200ish to make with the tips.

This are weld on only tips; any muffler shop shouldn't charge your more than $100 to weld them onto your stock muffler

*I've had it over a year, and i do not see any bubbling or burning of the diffuser nor paint with it being flushed.

If you're dissatisfied with your OE tailpipes, you might consider having them sandblasted and powdercoated. I did this with mine because of corrosion and I thought they needed to go gloss. Here they are from the sandblaster/powdercoat shop:

and re-fitted:

It's not until you get them coated that you realise how thin the OE paint is by comparison, and note the powdercoat is inside as well as outside, unlike the OE. I had considered trying to do them in the body colour but we agreed it would be hard to exactly colour-match. And I did think that I might do them in something outrageous like red, to match all the red on the back of the car, but in the end I went for gloss black.

Haha red would be pretty outrageous. I like everything about the m performance ones I have, I just wish they were 1/4" to 1/2" bigger in diameter. At the moment I have given up my search for the perfect tip.
