How much more power can the N55 produce beyond that of the M235i? I wouldn't mind seeing the M2 with the N54 dropped in with some better cooling and slightly bigger compressors. I know thats not the reported engine... but still .. |

In my runs with the M235i compared to my 335is, I feel like the N54 while very smooth is not as smooth as the N55. I think that's part of why the N54 feels faster. You get a more progressive throttle response from the N55, where the N54 feels sometimes like it's questioning if your intentions are to go fast, and then it says "oh, ok!" and darts off. Granted, when my engine triggers overboost, my 335is feels faster, but that's what the 50lbs added torque will do.
Compared to the 135i, I can't really say. I drove the 1 a few times to get a good idea of how the car felt and it was part of the reason why I knew the 2 would be an all-star. But I don't feel like the 1 was faster, again just less progressive in its application of power. I do feel like the 1 handles a bit less planted than the 2, which makes it feel a bit more "dangerous." |

Have you reset the throttle? As I've shifted to more city driving, I've noticed less throttle response (car learning driving style). But, when coding my car, the throttle was reset and now it feels much more urgent again, in all modes.

I think it will depend on the direction they decide to go with the car - will it be a slightly juiced up M235? Or will it be a lightened, handling monster? The customer base, in my opinion, will be determined based on those factors. We shall see....

M235 might be one of the best sports cars ever made for fast city driving on shitty roads. Porsches handle better but an m235 can corner faster on bumpy uneven pavement without spilling your coffee.

I can't wait to see if I feel like a target when the M2 hits the showroom.

Hence, the M2 could be the modern version of the E46 M3, if BMW decides to go that direction. I can't speak for anyone else, but I got the M235 because there wasn't an entry M model available in my price range (1M prices too high in used market, M2 wasn't even confirmed, M3/4 weren't yet being delivered). So this car represented the best (I thought at the time, since I bought it sight/drive unseen) performance value for the money. I hope that BMW is shooting to get someone like me, who values the driving experience over 0-60 times, when unveiling the M2.

Here's to hoping the M2 is underpinned by at the very least M3/M4 suspension bits... even if the engine is largely unchanged from the M235i. I agree, that the trend of bigger cars makes the M2 a potential sweet spot car for those of us who loved the e46 dimensionally... On another note. There is someone in the office who believes their G37 sedan will make short work of your M235i and my 135i... thought you should know... |

Amen! There was a lot of misunderstanding for 1 series guys that thought the 1M was just a souped up 135i and would say their 135i with a tune was the same thing but it wasn't. The 1M had the e90 M3s all aluminum strut housings and other M3 parts. The brakes were sturdier than the nicer looking 135 brakes. The steering rack was the same unit as the M3 which was much quicker and you needed it to try to keep the backend in line. The flywheel was lightened and it had the full-lock M3 diff not a limited slip 30% max unit. All of these m3 underpinnings were unseen by the masses but made for a really cool experience. I hope the M2 follows suit! I also think they should offer the fixed firm m suspension! I don't want a comfort button in my M car. It's still an option in the current M3 but not a choice in the 235! You are forced to take EDC suspension. I want that choice!
