Disgusted with BMW whoring out the M moniker... Call the in between model BMW Performance or something... just don't put an M on it. Thats like Mercedes putting a 1/2 AMG sticker on in between models.

I don't know man, I think there is to much of a gap between the headlights and the kidney grills for my taste, but I do like the color, and the fact that it's a convertible.

They desperately need to get rid of those ugly headlights - take a leaf out of Benz's book and design something nicer for the entry level BMWs. I got a feeling that this may be the new 1-series coupe designation though, so my wish may not come true. But I hope it does as this would make a good daily driver!

If there was a generel formula for what a nice headlight is, I'm sure BMW would have designed it like that. The problem is that it is a matter of taste, and we all have different taste. According to my taste, the competing cars from Mercedes Benz have ugly headlights, and the design of the F20 is miles ahead of the A class.

I think the designers have a general idea about what kinds of designs suit the different markets. My guess is that the 2 series will be slightly more in line with typical American taste than the F20.

The next 2 series range models for BMW might be the best performing sale series as 3 series became larger and with a quite high price when is well optioned.

So we have to wait a little more, but be very happy after the new great products will be released: these series have to be the real ultimate driving machines

I still find it funny that people still think the N55 will be the go to six cylinder in 2014.... hence why the rest of the report has zero value- I love how they say the M35i engine has already been approved for the US- its called the 40i motor and they do the software flash and call it the "M Peformance" version.... (maybe add in some cooling).

Looks 10 times better than the 1 series IMO. But how many cars will BMW bring over before it starts to affect their other models sales?

If I recall correctly that was the way the M2 was looking a few months back. I think it would take some people a while to wrap their heads around that. But I think it could lead to some exciting possibilities.

So basically.. 235i.. 235i with bodykit and tune for a price increase that isn't viable.. So price:equal performance should be better off with 235i (like 135i vs 1m) And the m2 (2m more likely?) which is the 235is with a better tune and lsd and wide body (and bigger brakes etc) for a WAY bigger price increase

If it's a real m2 and not a 2m... Well that's a bit different and will certainly be miles ahead of the 235is

I am old. If the 235i comes out in Jan 14, then a 3-6 month delay for the M235i, we are looking at 2 years. BS

Great car, but can I wait that long?

Hm? The brand new a class looks more like an e87 cross with an s3, but better looking than both (especially in the rear, improving over the e87).. Especially compared to the new 1 series hatches, the merc is the best out of the lot so far

However this coupe is also stunning

The headlight on this coupe make it look angry an aggressive rather than derpy like the 1 hatch

Its funny how people think this completely out-of-nowhere fake, which hast he exact frontend as the F20, looks soooo much better than the F20 itself. Its an F20 frontend with a downsized 6-series rearend. Nothing more, nothing less. And I don't know what kind of f20s you have seen there in down under, but over there the headlights look exactly the same. At least on my car.

Rumors are the Mercedes CLA AMG could have 370hp and that will use a i4 with turbos! Audi pretty easily got 360hp out of their i5.

Give me a light weight 2 gran coupe with awd and over 350hp while averaging well over 25mpg and I will give you $60K.

I agree with AlexT and Flinchy - the new BENZ A-CLASS looks much better than the new BMW 1-series.

Apart from AMG, BMW have the superior engines but BENZ has the superior style now in this segment (A & C CLASS vs 1 and 3 series).

I hope this 2-series can lift BMW's presence - I think it will be a top-seller if they get the exterior design right. I Too am looking for this size vehicle.

If the 2 series ended up looking like the drawing in this thread, there would be no space for adults in the back seat. I think the roofline will be different, and there will probably also be some changes from the F20 in the front.

Sorry Harold, Huge supporter of your work But I am afraid that 2er is a bit too Damien Hurst for me.

The basic "outline" is more like this...
Classic 2dr BMW that began with the 1600/2002 to the E30 and the E82.

There seems to be a "Just because" mentality that thinks that "Just because" this car has so-so BHP that we should better it and make it faster!

I can name lots of cars that many think "Just because" that BMW M should immitate them and their outputs when actual fact when these cars come against M they falter in the key areas which is symbolic with an M driver.
And they do not just falter they fail because their marketing dept. promises much.

For the next generation 1M (M2) everything will remain the same , same entry specifics , same power output except from one thing the car will get lighter. Logically with the M3 getting a six cylinder even though rivals still feature a V8. BMW M are looking at and having engineered four cylinder prototypes based on reworked N20's as the logic choice for the next car.

The interesting aspect about the development of the F22 is that it has already commenced in some areas therfore the car will have a more mature development process in light of the ultra-fast eighteen months to production for the E82.

The 2-series won't get any GT models. Those are reserved for 5-door models like the 1-series and 3-series.

And it's doubtful that any GT model will get the M Performance treatment -- though who knows.
