Article: When did we become the bad guys?

Article in today's BMWCCA Roundel Weekly. Certainly food for thought:

everytime I run into STIs, Golf GTIs, Civic SIs, & F150s...they all want to race. I always end up ahead of them so it translates me as the aggresive driver and cause alot of attention

The article was about how some BMW owners can be a**holes. I didn't expect people to respond to the thread in confirmation. Wow.

If you're going to use context, then take it back to the original post which was completely unprovoked and made in some attempt to justify his purchase which many find to be overpriced and underperforming:

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=351

He just got on his box to let everyone know that he could afford the overpriced mod because he was so well off, as if to say the rest of us not going with the mod are just poor? Like if we just bought a $50k car we're going to lose our asses on the difference between a $500 and $2000 product.

true story, happened today...judge for yourselves

driving in downtown minneapolis on a major three lane road right through downtown at the peak of rush hour after work. cars and people everywhere, heavy traffic.

E60 M5 pulls up in the adjacent lane. I'm 3-4 cars back from the light, hes maybe second in his lane.

im going about my business slogging through rush hour. light turns green, he stays stopped at a green light waiting for the cars in my lane to go through the light until im next to him.

before i am quite next to him he juices it like a complete moron and then slams on his brakes hard so as to not hit the car in front of him.

before i had a chance to pull up alongside and ask if he always drives like shit or just during rush hour (right in front of a police station too believe it or not), he weaves in and out of traffic cutting everyone off before he can see that i think hes actually a douchenozzle.

Another true story from today...cruising along the highway minding my own business and going about 5 over with the speed of traffic when suddenly everyone's getting bogged down by a jerk texting on his phone in a mustang 302 doing slightly below the speed limit in the far left lane, meanwhile even semis are going past him on the right.

There are dumbasses in every single make and model of car. No brand has a monopoly on idiot drivers.

It's mostly jealousy, IMHO. Let's face it, to own a BMW you DO have to be somewhat above average. Even as used cars they are not cheap, nor are they cheap to maintain. New ones are just plain expensive to the Camry driving masses.

I find that the douchebag driver contingent has largely moved on to Infiniti and Audi, at least in my area.

Do you though? Most of them (including most of the ones on this forum) are all leases anyway with payments that cost less or the same as it does to buy a Ford/GM/Whatever. I could lease a 4 or 5, + or -, for what I pay to own my 5.0. Not to mention you can get a BMW for $30k now, which is actually the average new car price.

A car cannot define a person, period. If someone states that BMW drivers are a-holes, then that is called a generalization. I've seen people drive like jerks in ANY car.

When it comes push to shove, people view luxury car drivers as self-absorbed and ignorant for whatever reason. Jealousy at its finest.

50% are below average. IN THEORY you can buy a base 2, 3, or X1 for just above $30K - who actually does? Most are in the low $40s. 3's average $50K+. Even on a lease, that is a lot of money every month for a relatively small car. You can lease a Camry for $200/mo, sometimes less, and it is all most people can do to lease a Camry.

My current BMW is a lightly optioned '11 wagon, I got a great deal on it between dealer discount and ED discount, put down a decent down payment, almost free interest rate, and it is STILL $650/mo. Obviously, it is not leased. A lease would have been $450+. Joe SixPack cannot afford that while raising kids etc. The median household income in the US was only $51K last year.
