I loved the previous gen I like this one but holy s*** the s3 cabrio blows this one away... and that interior and those seats!! the audi is in another galaxy. check out the S3 rims compared to the bimmer's!!! I´ve never been a fan of convertibles specially in sports car - too much flex - but this audi makes me wonder.

I wouldn't say if kills it.

But it's nice without question and Audi does know how to pick proper seats for its sports models.

The Audi is a stunner...

The problem w/ the m235i convertible will be the WEIGHT.

The tin top is heavy to begin with....the curb weight on this thing could be scary. Beautiful car though.

Umm, what "tin top" are you talking about?

Its a rag top not a hard roof.

Also quite a bit of the weight comes from the chassis that needs to be reinforced.

Wow!!!

Some definite "automotive terminology/slang" newbies here...

By "tin top", I was referring to the standard, hard top coupe.

By the photos and Jason's second post, it was established that the convertible variant has a "soft" or cloth top.

My post was referencing the fact that the m235i coupe is a heavy car to begin with; the convertible will only be that much heavier, given the OBVIOUS fact that convertibles require additional chassis bracing and stiffening (aka: weight).

My post had NOTHING to do with the weight of the top itself!

That S3 is covered in detailing that costs extra.

Regarding the 2er Cabrio? Just a few weeks to go...

Not official pics of M235i 'vert yet.
It will perform better than its S3 rival, as M135i did in hatchback class. If we add some Performance options nothing more can be discussed

humm maybe. Dont get me wrong I think the m235i is probably one of the best bmw´s in the lineup. But for me, where I drive and how I drive this car - twisty narrow european roads where rain is always a factor - and not sideways going through tire sets in one day - I think the S3 probably will edge it out. just. this beeing the convertible there will be a trade off in rigidity. steering feel is relative. 5 or 6 years ago an audi steering would not hold a candle to a bimmer. since eps started beeing introduced across the range i am not conviced the regular joe will be able to tell or at least that the difference is that huge that it will make the difference. honestly I think we bmw fans will go for it cause its a bmw. On looks alone and interior quality and after looking at the pics I posted I have to say I am so, so tempted to jump ship. I have considered the cayman/boxter - again great interior great sound even better steering but the car is a bit wide. Decisions decisions. and btw regarding reviews car and driver just placed the audi n1 against the 2ser and merc cla (not m235i though).

on this road in france - pic n1 and 2- believe me I wish I had 4wheel drive instead of rwd - incredible deserted mountain road, extremely narrow and it rained the day before!
See if you can find wally (my red 1972 E9 csi)

In terms of driving dynamics the Boxter is by far the superior car.
I like better the British reviews to those from US
I don't know if you heard about Transfagarasan, Top Gear made an episode in our country and they really enjoyed this route:

I did. i loved that episode. the thing for me is that its far. How safe is it to drive in your country? I mean no offence but if you´ve seen top gear you probably remember the albania episode - yes I know different country - and I am not so sure its safest place for bimmers, porsches etc. I would love to visit romania. -mind you one you can get your car stolen anywhere - a friend of mind had 2 stolen in Lisbon. not one 2! Plus home to my favourite footbaler ever - weird right - HAGI... or magic hagi how i called him. Pure class

I recommend you to visit Transilvania: Brasov, Sibiu: great places and good hotels.
Not so many motorways yet. There are a lot of expensive cars, but it's better to have the assurance paid

This cloth top looks cheap. Plus you can see the supporting panels from outside. I think latest Porsche convertible soft top material n clean flow looks really nice.

lol my M3 Coupe 6MT is my daily driver now so my natural progression after my lease ends is a M4 Coupe to replace it. I live right on the Jersey Shore so I was looking to get the M235i Convertible for the weekends/beach.

Agreed this is a nice looking car. The wheels are particularly nice!

Driving dynamics keep me loyal to BMW's though and it's interesting to see Audi move from a complicated dash (instrument panel) to a very simple clean-line dash as BMW has been doing since mid 2000's. This is a look I prefer.

I am looking forward to comparing production photos of the S3 pictured (with the extras as Scott26 mentioned) to a production M235i convertible with M-Performance parts - that should be a very close contest!

I just been playing a bit on the audi german car configurator. very tempting and price not much different. audi engine sounds like a fart and yes rwd will make a difference always but the audi has near 50:50 weight, build quality i think everyone can agree is a class above the bimmer - interior 4 me at least the audi by miles - and exterior even the panel gaps are better sorted than in the bmw. looks are always subjective but those wheels. my god those are pure sex compared to the bmw's. I love that detail of the Alu A pilar and did I mention the interior?
