2-series Cabrio rear headrest question
I find the rear headrests in the 2er cabrio obstruct quite a bit of the view out the rear window.
The rear headrests in the cabrio are significantly larger(higher) than those in the 2er coupes (see comparo pics below). I rarely have anyone in the rear seats but when I do, they are my 2 young (5 & 8) grandkids. I've seen pics here of some cabrio owners removing the rear headrests, but I really don't want to have no headrests when the grandkids are in the car. I know that the cabrio is equipped with a pop-up roll over protection system (ROPS), so I assume that if there are rear passengers, it is safer to have a headrest between the passenger and the ROPS. Assuming that the headrests of the 2er coupe would fit the 2er cabrio and assuming that the largest passenger in the rear seat is a small child, does anyone see a potential safety hazard replacing the 2er cabrio headrests with headrests of the 2er coupe? TIA

The safety issue is the roll bar comes out of that black plastic cutout directly behind the headrest, which needs to remain un-obstructed.
If you had the flip down headrests (assuming they fit) and the headrest were to get hit because it was tilted back or didn't fit properly, it would potentially be extremely bad. My recommendation to you: Remove the rear headrests, and keep them in the trunk. If you are going to have a rear passenger, it is easy to just pop in by dropping it straight down. You can always remove them again afterwards.

Ahhh, I didn't realize the coupe had flip down headrests. The pics didn't show that.
I'll stick with what I've got. Thx

I'm not sure, but I think the US headrests are taller than the EU ones.
When I look at pictures of Euro-market cars the rear headrests look shorter to me. |
