I am sure it won't be up on BMWusa for a while.

Dealers still have a number of 1-series sitting on lots. So they would like to move those first, before the non-informed realize there is a 2-series right around the corner.
Ahh we'll they're going to have to put it up eventually. Dealer here is taking orders. How can they take orders and not advertise?

Pretty much, the average lark just walks on the lot with the roundel in their eyes and buys whatever boring black, white, or silver car the dealer has and probably isn't even really aware of the available options.

Most people out there probably don't even know what xenons are and have been blind to the fact that half the cars on the road have obviously different headlights and have for the last fifteen years, and I can't remember the last time I saw M sport anything at my local dealers, which are both large ones. I don't even remember the last time I saw an M sport anything on the road. Granted I live in the north, so all the dealers do is order 15 copies of the same black xdrive whatever with wonky options that drive the price to mid 40s and line them up on the lot waiting for the larks to arrive.

I used to think people made informed decisions about cars, then I realized if you mentioned xenons to the average person they would look at you like you had three heads, then say they don't know what you're talking about even after explaining it, and then finally just saying they don't care. lol.

Us wanting M sport and all the fun options and fun colors are not the norm.

If I buy a 2, I'd want to order it since I know no dealer will stock exactly what I want, but it would still be nice to see/drive an M sport 2 so I can get a good look/impression before ordering.
You are spot on.

When was the last time your dealer had a stick shift car in stock?!

Bottom line is that us enthusiasts are a tiny piece of the BMW driving pie.

Tell a sales guy you want to order M-Performance parts and it's more likely than not that will look at you as though you are from outer space.

2015 BMW M4  [10.00]
Spoke to a dealer at stevens creek BMW yesterday, their demo M235i began production yesterday but no word as to what options/package it will have. BMW basically built it for them and said take it or leave it. He expects to have the car on his lot available for test drives in January. No way I would order this car w/o a test drive you guys who have placed orders already are either crazy or have a whole lot of trust in BMW

I'm not sure what's worse, people who blindly order, or dealerships that expect you to order something without test driving it. I know this happened with Boss 302s and 392 Challengers, which is understandable to a point since I as a buyer wouldn't want everyone in town ragging on it before I bought it, but still.

No test drive, no sale, simple as that.

You don't need to order anything.... just a refundable deposit.... if you don't want to order, you can wait till the car arrives and test drive it and keep your production spot, if you don't like it you get your deposit back...

+1

I just put down a 1,000 refundable deposit and I am first in line. If my car comes in (or I guess the demo will come in first) and I don't like it, I just get my check back and walk away!

Bought an M3 without a test drive. Was kind of disappointed with it at first until after the inspection II was done and some software updates. Then it really came to life and performed like what I thought it should. When the 1M came out, it was a no-brainer to put down a deposit on one since the initial reviews were favorable.

I read yesterday that BMW only sells 500 1 series a month in the US, obviously a pretty slow seller. They have sold 150,000 worldwide since its introduction. They could build a years production of the 2 series in a week for the US if it sold like the 1 series. I think they will see a huge migration of 3 series coupe and convertible owners to the 2 series. With no stick on the 4 series and the bigger size and pricing the 2 series especially convertible will go way up from the 1 series.

I just realized that I may be in Europe next summer! I've looked on the BMW site for Euro delivery. Is there somewhere where people have discussed the advantages and whether they found it to be worthwhile? Is it really 7% less expensive? This is a very exciting thought! I'd love to get more detail from those who've done it.

It's a shame theirs no benefits for us Canadians on ED I'll be in Europe next August/Sept too but without any discounts for Canadian ED, might not be worth it.

The general consensus is that its only financially advantageous to do ED if you were planning to go to Europe anyway.

Does March Product launch mean that you have to wait until March to order or that's when it hits showrooms? I'm assuming you can order before?

That's what I'm doing

And I'm pretty sure you can get more than a 7% discount. When the ordering guide and prices are out, I think it tells you the invoice for ED and invoice for dealers, someone correct me if I'm wrong

Not necessarily.

I'm planning on going to Europe next year because of the ED. If it wasn't for that I would not go, at least not now. The savings with the car gets put towards the trip, plus BMW pays for the first month or two when you get back and also provides a no deductible insurance coverage and pays for all of the registration and the price includes the freight back to the dealership.

March launch means it will "officially" go on sale worldwide.

Expect to see customers who already put deposits down before then.

Looks like the M235i is being priced at 45,900 euros, not dollars. Yes? This puts it at about $61,300 U.S. Even the 220i looks to be more than $41K U.S. Someone tell me I am wrong.

You're probably right, but Belgian pricing is of near-zero relevance in the United States. Right now, the dollar is weak versus the Euro, so BMW (and all auto manufacturers, really) sell their cars much cheaper in the U.S.. In a perfect world, they'd love to get $60K for a m235i in the U.S., too, but they can't. And the U.S. market is too big and important to exit, so they stay here and try to make profits on volume.

You're wrong.

EU cars have VAT added into the price and aren't as simple to convert as just adjusting for currency conversion. What you can usually do is compare similar models, just to get a relative sense of what another €46k car costs. For example, if a 335i F30 is £37.4k in the UK and $43.4k in the US, you'll get relatively close converting UK pricing to US by multiplying the UK price (regardless of currency value) by 116%.

This is only directional and doesn't take into account different standard content. For example, converting the UK M5 pricing using the above logic leaves me underestimating US pricing by about $7k. But it will get you ball park.

Wow! Those are terrible pictures. I can't tell much about what the car really looks like from these. Can you?

So, you really like your 1er? Still may go that route.
