No longer need to remove DME to unlock?

I hope this becomes an option to install BM3!

Yeah, I read about this over at the F30 section... Possibly very exciting. Planning to go BM3 when I get back in the Netherlands. Would be awesome if my DME ECU does not have to be physically molested!

Hear you.
I've been planning the same (BM3), and just waiting for a time to arrange to take the car in for the DME removal.
I think I'll wait a little while longer . . .

Hah, I don't envy you! I'm not going home for a while anyways so for me the wait is a bit more bearable

Lol I'm in the same page. I was getting ready to do it, but then realized I'm about to put winter tires on. Figured I'd wait till spring.

Maybe this will be availible by then.

It's really meant for a tuner shop that does multiple cars. If you think about it from that perspective, it makes sense. Does not make sense for one of us to buy it for one time use When these trickle into the shops, then it will start changing things.

Pulling the dme to unlock is super easy and fast. Mine was in and out in just under 2hrs.

We are getting close ... First releases will be very expensive then the trusted companies will release their own and price will go down really fast.

My suggestion to anyone wanting to do flash is to wait until at least 2 out of three 3 big players have it available (Cobb,MHD,BM3)

Not all of us live close to a shop that can pull, unlock and reinstall the DME in one day. For me it would be a minimum two day turnaround with overnight shipping.

Bench unlock is still king and will remain that way regardless of what happens on the obd unlock front since bench flashing is the only way to get a full readout of the dme and have a full backup as a restore point if the customer ever wanted to go back to bone stock software with all the flash counters reset how they were prior.

Cheers

Is that bolded part important if you're using OTS tunes from BM3 and the like?

They'll get around that. Never say never. Everyone swore there was NO WAY you could OBD flash these newer DMEs and now here we are. This is just the start.
