Or at least do what other car makers did and let you set your own settings instead of guessing what's behind door number 3.

One possibility is high performance all season tires such as the Pirelli runflats that come stock on some of our cars or the equivalent Pirelli goflats (which I have and like) or the Michelin AS series. Another possibility, if your ego can't accept that, is performance summer tires with a bit less traction. Research on TireRack will turn up some alternatives to the Michelins that most people here are infatuated with that have excellent steering response but a bit less traction.

I actually don’t believe (at all) that, in the case I described, the car was intervening to save me from flying off into the trees.
If that’s what it “thinks” it was doing then it executed that action on a completely dry road while the car was offering no complaints at all. Before the intervention (assuming that the behavior wasn’t just the chassis doing its thing) there was no slip, no skid, no tire squeal … nothing … to indicate the car was under duress. I also didn’t register any blinking on the dash. Any of the modes I might have been using at the time would’ve allowed some skid. (I’ve experienced at least a little slip in every mode but eco.) So I’m stuck between magical chassis and active programmatic intervention intended to make the car feel “sporty.” After all, what happened was that the car turned in more - our maybe I should say “more easily” - lending to a feeling of rotation (without any skid). It's easier and possibly safer to approach the limits at lower speeds in less traction environments as long as you expect the results. (ie. snow, rain) |

So past few day's I was testing this is what I found
Traction on or off : no difference Sport mode with drive train only selected: car sounds like a maniac but no real difference in performance and the steering is super light Eco mode: Well... nuff said Comfort mode TBH is totally fine for me WHY does comfort mode come up as default, that's a pain to keep remembering to hit any other mode txs all for sharing ! |

I prefer Sport chassis only settings. The drive train mode keeps RPMs higher than I need on a daily basis, but the chassis settings adds a little weight to the steering and firms things up a bit for sporty driving. But yea, every time I start the thing, I have to remember to hit the sport button. And I typically forget for at least half my drive. |

quoting "Can definitely code it, but not yet through Bimmercode because it doesn't support the associated ECU (so can't do it in Expert mode either).
If you have ESys setup, code ECU BDC_BODY3/00007083 parameter FesPiaDefaultLastUserMode to 02. See this post and the rest of its thread for more: https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=25275924 " |

My $.02.
ECO = quick death in and around town. You really have to change your driving habits to use it safely. There are modest fuel economy improvements, but the car's reluctance to accelerate is not worth it. On the highway using it is fine. On long rides I will often switch it on. Comfort = I forgot to put it in Sport! I probably drive in this 1/2 the time, it's a decent compromise. Gas mileage is 1-2mpg better than sport. Sport = 40% of the time… a lot more fun and a rumbling exhaust! Sport S1 = Let the rpm's sing! I really only use when I want to scream up an on-ramp. It's fun though. Sport+ = I'll stick with Sport S1 because I like DSC (I bought AWD so I would be less likely to leave the road). Sport+ S1 = I'm feeling wild and crazy! |
