Don't cheap out on a head unit

As I did, bought the Andream non android head unit for my CCC E92 for the CarPlay. Website states that it keeps the steering wheel controls, it does but it skips 2 songs worst part is that when I email them about it they just tell me to use my idrive knob which they also claim works… it doesn’t

Dot not recommend the Andream unit as well. Have had it for about 2 years. First, the screen is not bright enough in a daylight, second it stopped automatically connecting to the phone after a few months, and it takes multiple manual attempts before it does. Support’s answer is to send the video and then nothing.

It would be interesting to hear positive reviews of other brands and models.

Most of these aftermarket Head Units if not all are from China with no support.

Also there is stereo sub forum here where there are many threads on this

Ahaha I had the same issue. You need to change a setting to fix that, I can't recall which one it is but look at the settings of the CarPlay unit. Although I have LCI E92 so it's CIC I tihnk.

All of these CarPlay units are mostly the same IMO.

EDIT: IIRC it's a setting that says to use Car's steering wheel control. You need to put that to OFF because the BMW stock system also skips the track when you do this, so both the CarPlay and BMW system think you want to skip tracks so it skips 2.

But my iDrive knob works and I can move my map in waze, select things and everything is fine.

I have the one from RoadTop seller on eBay and pretty happy with it.

Mostly works well, sometimes it won't connect automatically have to go in BT, rarely it won't even connect like that either and I need to reboot it by holding the "Back" button on iDrive, but meh It is what it is and for the positives it brings me (Having waze and navigation be more user friendly VS stock BMW, see traffic, police) it's extremely worht it to me still. It changes the car and brings in to the 2024 world.

The RoadTop seller also have a firmware upgrade you can install to use the stock Bluetooth instead of AUX (For me AUX quality was waaaay worse than BT on my car). Maybe the new units have it stock.

I've been eyeing the Joying unit. Specifically the generic that's not listed as European ready. Having seen threads on here from others that used it.

If you have idrive, I recommend the mr12volt unit. Adds wireless CP/AA, and is the only unit to pass audio through the digital most loop, not via the inferior aux.

Works with the factory idrive, no need to replace the whole unit etc.

This looks perfect, but the screen quality would be poop. The Chinese ones are mint

Even CCC screen quality is adequate for CarPlay (it’s what I use - and is defo good enough that I’m no longer thinking I need to upgrade the full CCC). So unless you want high res video playback (which can’t be done in CarPlay anyway) or similar, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

OP I am curious if my fix resolved your issue? It's just how it is set up in the settings.

There isn’t a setting for that. Not only is CCC/CIC different, we have different units which will have different settings. I have an EONON one in my Mazda 3 and it’s pretty much perfect. I’ll send pics of my settings soon.

Don't mean to skew the conversation, is there a way to hard reset or even update firmware on ANDREAM units?

I sent them a pic of my software version, says 2022. They said it’s up to date and recommend not to update because “it can crash”

Good update

There is a setting called idrive controller
Options are A/B

I tried both and no bueno, they told me to try both and to restart the device. No bueno. I switched to B and left the car overnight. Started it and the idrive controller works perfect. Steering wheel buttons still a no go.

I bought one for my audi, and the comments were similar : controls, slow, rear speaker not working, buzzing sound etc.

And be surprised when I plug it, everything worked and wasn't slow. I paid a bit more than amaon, it was a xTrons. Still the same china stuff, but seems to have way better support and development. Bought it in 2018, still working.
I use the 4gb version, which was a must back then.

Now looking for CIC xTrons and damns they are expensive, they have 4-6 and 8gb ram version. Tempting to go higher for future proofing.
