I've had my 2015 M235i for a few weeks now. I use it as my daily commuter and most of the time I'm in traffic. I usually keep the car in EcoPro mode and find it's sufficient for helping increase mpg. When I'm driving around the city, I keep it in Comfort as the EcoPro mode becomes annoying due to the gearing and shifting changes. When I want to have some fun, or pass some slow-ass slug sitting on the highway, a couple quick presses of the button, and I can instantly suck their doors off and go back to my mpg saving mode. Personally, I like it. However, I do agree - there should be a way to set your own preferred driving mode in the settings rather than having the car default to comfort mode each time you start the car.

I love the option to match my mood even though I get 10 liters for $2.65 here in Bahrain. If I just want to go real fast, sport plus. If I want to play, sports mode. Love the on demand shifting using the paddles. If I'm staying in the middle lane and just cruise around, comfort mode.

Can we code it like that
Hey hey hey. I resemble that remark.

This wifey = sport, thankyouverymuch. But my stick skills *are* lacking, to the previous poster who contemplated the proclivity of divorce.

Fiddlesticks. My husband can have his stick and whatever mode he wants in his M2. This wifey has an auto 235 and isn't afraid to use it in sport mode.

I personally think in comfort mode the chassis is too soft. I find myself getting my guts pounded out. So I just adjusted it in the Idrive, now when i'm in sport mode I have the sport chassis but the comfort mode engine management. And if I want all out I still have Sport+. But all in all I like having the ability to adjust things or have different modes. 99.8% of other vehicles on the road don't have these options.

Agreed...that is my set up too. I like the tight chassis all the time. That is why I bought this cat and not a Toyota

I like it the way it is. The only thing I don't like is when the auto-start stop feature turns on.

I actually prefer Comfort in some ways. If I could get the steering weight and linear throttle in comfort, I'd be happy.

bumping an older thread for us newbies:

Comfort mode with sport transmission setting is my EDD for now..

For me the sports chassis setting is to stiff for ED, so I may putter with sport engine setting with the comfort chassis setting - if that makes sense?

We're all different creatures, glad there is personalization available and glad I have a chance to fine-tune over time as well.

What's eco-pro?

We are all different. I find the sport mode suspension to be too soft. It's softer than my MINI's was. I wish Sport+ did more than just turn off the traction control so there were three levels of settings for chassis stiffness.

And you're coming from a Mini and me with two X's (a 3 and a 5)...Maybe if I was coming from my E92 M3 as context I may have a different perspective - more like yours!

Honesty! Thank you!

LOL
Yes, I don't want a coffee machine with a BREW COFFEE WELL button!

Or a Television that you turn on in it has a fuzzy picture....oh I forgot to press the GOOD PICTURE BUTTON. LOL LOL LOL

That is what we have here and while so many would think this is nuts, they defend it to the death and call you vicious names like hater. Sorry for that, I get it, you love the cars like I do and just want them to be improved.

Personally, I still have not ruled out 228 or 235, I'm just waiting to see how M2 stacks before picking one. I was ready to buy 235i but found it too soft and tad heavy for me but I still LOVE it. Just like I want my kids to excercise more and play less video games not because I hate them but because I love them.

I'm not sure why so many still don't get that compromising a car gives you a compromised car. Previous M-sport cars like my current ZHP, friend's 2011 M-Sport 335i and even the 1M had fixed suspension and throttle maps that were firm and quick enough to be exciting without being uncomfortable. That was what made BMW stand out! They made cars that were exciting to drive and firm and snappy enough without being uncomfortable. The M-sport cars were especially good at this.

Now they are trying to make cars that cover a very broad range from really soft to firm but it doesn't work well. In order for full on comfort, you have to have softer springs and more spring travel since the dampening is less. This compromises, the sporty end because now you to make up for a soft spring with electromagnetics but now you have added weight, complexity and some unpredictability off the smooth racetrack.

At the very least, they should get the button order correct!!!!!!!!
If you put an M badge on your car....it should default to SPORT always!!! Period! Then if you wanted mind-dulling COMFORT, then you press a button for that!

What other machine makes you press a button to do it's job correctly?

Bravo for the honesty! We need more of it. I worry about all of the aforementioned people raising kids. If their kids steals something, would they not tell them stealing is bad, because then they would be haters too.

Let me the first to call you a true blue 2 series lover!

After 8 months of ownership, I think I've come to terms with the mood button, ah, mode button. I leave my M235i in the default Comfort mode until the engine warms up, then select Sport mode. I think this is nice to the engine.

I feel exactly the same. That's why I always have high beams on, the sound systems is cranked to maximum and the heater set to 110. Compromises are for girly man .

Indeed.
When turning left in Comfort or Eco, I have to remember to tip my A/T shifter to "sport/man" to force the motor to stay on, so I can sprint across the intersection without that dangerous restart delay.

Keen point.

Folks in this chatroom generally lean towards the "banshee" side of the customer base. Plus I think that many of the reviewers gauge their mpg based on the default mode.

Me? I like that my M235i defaults to comfort. My wife uses the car and gets flustered by all the modes, etc. I like that she can pop in and just drive. Plus I like that I have a "monster mode" in reserve that I can switch into, as needed. As others have said, all I have to do is tap 1 button to get into sport mode, which isn't a terrible feat.

That said, if BMW can give us the ability to custom-program our turn signals to blink 3 times, then it certainly would be nice to let us easily set the default driving mode, auto-start preferences and other driver-oriented preferences. And of course I would like an M button on the wheel to make it a tad easier to toggle on the power, rather than fumbling around the console while a Corvette is hunkering down on me.

It's because the car is soft.

And since I have one, I can say that.

I know - I'm just saying that if you drive this car consistently in ECO Pro, you're not even getting the small amount of fun that it has to offer.
