In the UK it is part of the smokers package and if you don't order it you just get a nice tray with no lid as in some of the pictures above

I ordered one today too and was told the same thing. No stock in the U.S., direct order from Germany, although mine told me 2 weeks. Thanks for the post clueing us in on this part. It looks like it will turn the ashtray into something semi-useful.

Sorry, but I am confused. Which part is that amount? I thought the rubber insert for the opening was about seven bucks. Is that the price for the container with the openable lid? Or, is the dealer charging you for shipping just the drop-in rubber pad?

Same. Found Jake Sweeney BMW on google. $6.97 for the part. Under $8 to ship to MS. Dunno what the wait time is. A few other dealerships that I looked at wanted $12 and $15 to ship. Go-go google power.

After reading this thread I ordered the rubber piece that changes this space from an ashtray (and yes, it is an ashtray) into a nice little, very usable storage area. Sunglasses or cell phone fit well in there and change is easy to get to as well. I've spent quite a bit of money on appearance mods and accessories since I got my car but this was easily the best six bucks I have spent. I highly recommend this little "mod". The part has to be ordered by your dealer from Germany but mine arrived in a little over a week. $5.99 plus tax = $6.47.

I don't think it's a big deal. If you had been given the option to delete you probably would have gotten the $6 rubber thing and a plastic plug instead of a working lighter

Scrappy: Where did you source that bracket for the HU? Is it a custom job?
I've ordered two rubber trays for the ashtray space as well as the OEM replacement part in which the USB/Aux plug under the armrest fits into. I've studied parts catalog drawings; looks like you can access the area under the center armrest through the very back of the armrest (should be 2-3 trim pieces that pop off back there) without having to disassemble the entire console, which I'm trying to avoid. My plan is to fabricate holes in the ashtray insert and ashtray space, route the lightning cable under the center console plastic on the driver's side, drill/shape another hole in the USB/Aux fitting to run the cable to the USB port, and finalize the run the cable via access behind the armrest. As for an actual iPhone bracket: still playing with ideas, and I'm probably going to wait until I have the car before I commit to one. Last edited by Viffermike; 02-11-2015 at 12:25 PM.. |
