ER Charge Pipe

Hi all

I bought a brand new ER charge pipe a while back for F series N55 from the forum.

Took it in to the shop and the mechanic told me it is missing the barb fitting before the throttle valve shown here: http://www.evolutionracewerks.com/node/236

He tells me it is the wrong CP.

Any ideas? Did I get the wrong CP?

I have a 2014 M235i (automatic, RWD).

PS. if anyone has the installation instructions and can direct me to them that would be awesome.

Cheers

You can see it's missing that fitting in the middle of the pipe. Other than that it's exactly the same...

My intuition tells me that one is for the manual transmission.

I have a feeling you are right as I can't think of any other explanation...

The seller didn't mention AT or MT and stupidly I didn't know they had different CP's.

Not sure where you got it from but most sellers on here do have a mandatory selection for drivetrain and transmission.

Yea, you need to select RWD or AWD from the drop downs.

If the seller you bought it from didn't have that then they aren't familiar with the products they are selling, which is odd.

You will you do magnet test for this? If it sticks, then its not a true SS unit. I am curious due to the coating

That looks just like mine, but I have a manual car rwd, so maybe yours needs another fitting?

Why would you need a charge pipe? What's the benefits? OEM works well IMO.

The OEM charge pipe is prone to failure, it will fail sooner or later. If you run anything over stock boost you are guaranteed to have to change your CP soon.

It also will give you a stable power delivery. More responsive throttle response, especially in hot weather.

My OEM just burst on the highway. Not going very fast, was well within the speed limit. Heard a loud 'pop' when downshifted to overtake a slow vehicle and that was that. Had to limp home and brought it to the workshop the next day.

Break was at the lip of the longer pipe. Car is stock. Changed to ER as I've lost confidence in the OEM part.

Yea it's about a 30 min installation, might be a little longer your first time around but it's a very basic and straight forward mod otherwise.

Since this thread has been revived... just thought I'd let you all know that the CP was the right one, they just forgot to weld a bung on But I bought a new one and it's all good now.
