Is hitting fuel cut off damaging ?

Do you think it's damaging to hit the fuel cut off in first gear on a warm engine?

Always thought of it more as an inbuilt safety factor, BMW saving us from ourselves

Not at all. You can bounce it off the rev limiter as much as you want. You can even leave your foot into it if you need to....
