aFe Stage 2 CAI question

I know the aFe stage 2 CAI has been popular across this forum and I had a couple of questions to those who own one.

1. Is it a pretty easy and straight forward install?
If I have to service the vehicle I want to be able to switch the intake before taking it to dealer.

2. How much louder does this intake make the turbo spool?

I have the AFE Momentum and it took about 20 mins to install the first time and should take 10 - 15 minute for future swaps now that I know what I am doing. Not a big deal at all.

The noise increase is minimal, If I have the stereo off I can hear a slight whistle when I get on the throttle.

Install is very easy.
Momentum gives you a slight increase of sound over stock
Mangum is much louder

Thanks for all the help! I also saw there is a video installation tutorial that they have put up as well!

Isn't the Magnum a closed box intake though? I know they provide a lot more protection to heat sink, but as a result, I thought they were quieter?

@G-Mann, would you mind sharing with me your experience with the Momentum? Any real difference in performance? How about the reaction when in traffic/hot weather? Do you feel a little bit of lag for the heat soaking when starting from a stand still? Thanks for your comments.

I have the afe magnum on my n55 335i. Install took about 30 minutes the first time but would take about 15-20 the second time around. Turbo sounds much louder especially with the drivers window down. Zero issues and zero cel lights.

Anyone just use the AFE 5R drop in filter instead? The website says it has a higher increase in airflow, unless I am reading their graphs wrong.

Thanks for helping on how they test the two. I knew the drop ins were good, but I think you are right, the 10 cfm increase isn't worth the $300+ more. Went with a drop in.

let me know your feedback when you get it...
It should increase the induction noise and let it breath better so maybe will get a bit better MPG not sure about any perf gains

Has anyone experienced any difficulty putting in the heat shield for the Magnum intake? My engine bay seems a bit too small where the filter lies to put the heat shield in! Am I doing something wrong?

No mine fit in perfectly. Maybe AFE can send you another? Good luck!

I felt a slight improvement in throttle response, the car felt a tad quicker. Overall in all driving conditions I feel it had a slight improvement over the stock box. It would be nice if some good dyno data existed comparing the options against a stock pull.
