I'm a Service Advisor for a dealer, and this is correct. And in my opinion, 10k/1year interval is not that bad. The old 15k interval is a little questionable though. If you drive your car hard all the time, by all means do it every 5k, but for the majority of people 10k is reasonable.

I have a concern regarding long oil change intervals. For me the weakest link in the system is the oil filter. It's efficiency must certainly be compromised after miles of use.
pikcachu suggested an oil analysis. That would certainly be a good idea and money well spent. After all, if for some reason or another, I decide to keep my car longer than the warranty period, I'd rather be safe then sorry. Turbo engines do get heat stressed. Now that BMW has switched from Castrol to Shell, wonder if its Pennzoil that is the retail version available in the US DIY other than BMW branded motor oil? |

Done. The place I went do didn't do the "1200mile break in service" so I had to pay outta pocket. Had a scare this weekend. The SA thought it was a full-bore M car and quoted me 200+ for an oil change (good to know for anyone considering it in the future).
Anyone with an M car know what its so expensive for an oil change?? |
