UPDATE ! Production Time Line Question, Just Wondering What Im In For!
UPDATE IN POST #16 10/29/14
So this is my first ordered BMW and first brand new car so I'm pretty excited about everything thats going on right now! So when I look at my Order it says Order documented , but when I call the 800 number , it says my vehicle is in production and will be done on 10/29 so Thats next Wednesday I've been doing tons of reading and heard everything from horror stories of people ordering and 2 months later not even having allocation , to people ordering and the next day the car is being in production. so basically I am asking anyone who has ordered their car or any BMW can give me a more clear timeline or confirm how I think things will go Week 1(10/18 Ordered 10/18 Week 2 (10/25) Start production 10/26 (my CA told me this was my production date) End production 10/29 maybe before the weekend arrive at port (fingers crossed) Week 3 (11/1) Sit at port no progress Week 4 (11/8) Get On Vessel Traveling across Sea Week 5 (11/15) Arrive IN USA Toward end of the week (port in NY) Week 6 (11/22) Arrive at dealer Pick up My Birthday is December 11th , I Pray and hope its here by then! In your opinion are my expectations way off or possible? Last edited by Anderw; 10-29-2014 at 02:45 PM.. Reason: UPDATED |

The 800 number is more accurate than the website. If it does finish production on 10/29, having it arrive to the East Coast of the US by 12/11 is very possible.

The 800 is more up to date then the website and if you speak to a rep they can give you up to date info and better timelines.
I ordered my car Aug 16 Production started September 1 Production ended September 9 September 15 it was at port October 8 it was in NY October 15 it was at my dealer October 18 I picked it up Just to give you a better idea. |

It all depends when you order and your dealers allocation. I ordered August 16 and the plant is closed the end of August but was in production on exactly September 1. The actual production does not take long, about a week, the longest is getting it to the port in Germany and getting a ship, ships to the east coast are between 13-15 days then from there it can take anotherv2 weeks to get to your dealer.
I waited at the port maybe one week and the transport to NY was about 15 days once it was off the ship it went through customs really fast and 2 days off the ship it was on a truck to my dealer. Once at my dealer they tinted the windows and I oicked it up 2 days later. |

well I got lucky , I guess the dealer had one already ordered for them , it was a EB 235 xi and when I put the production number in it showed up as that , even tho mine is glacier silver 235 rwd, I was able to refresh it by deleting the car and re-adding it. their pending order saved me having to wait for a order allocation. it only took 2 business days for the car to go from documented to in production . if it gets done next Wednesday like it says it will be , Im hopping to get to the port for next weekend maybe monday 11/3 and get on a boat by the 10th , then if it takes 2 week in transit it will get to NY by the 25th(ish) then be delivered to the dealership within a few days . and to me a day or two after that . I have nothing that needs to be added , and my CA told me their dealer doesn't let the cars sit or wait till theres a opening in the shop to get them prepped , they deliver to customers same day it shows up like I said in my original post my birthday is the 11th , I think its not a stretch to say ill most likely have it by then! |

It sounds like you're good to go. Like I said I ordered mine in August and that's when the plant closes. Once it was finished with production things moved real fast. Other scared me by telling me customs takes weeks mine was a day no more. Once it was off the ship it was fast as lightening and if I didn't have my windows tinted then I would have been able to pick it up that day it arrived.
You should be good for the 11th |

one more thing , after it finishes production is the only real way to stay updated with the progress is to find out what boat its on and track it from a marine traffic website? and if so do I just call my CA and ask him what vessel its on? |

I don't think BMW uses any carrier other than Wallenius & Wilhelmsen for transport to the East Coast.
Once you have the VIN you can track it at the W&W website. 2wglobal.com. Search the forums or Google for a "how to" order tracking guide for the full details. |

Mine was not showing up on the W&W tracking, thought this was normal until I got the actual ship the car was on. My ship is the Oregon Highway operated by K-Line into Baltimore, Brunswick, and Charleston. Checking their schedule they operate other ships on a similar route almost weekly.

so I went on 2wglobal.com and put in Bremerhaven to NY and this is the schedule , is this the only shipping company used for the east coast W&W?
if it is , I guess the earliest Im looking at is 11/22/14 arrival at the port BREMERHAVEN 09/11/2014 NEW YORK, NY 22/11/2014 ELEKTRA BREMERHAVEN 11/11/2014 NEW YORK, NY 26/11/2014 FAUST BREMERHAVEN 18/11/2014 NEW YORK, NY 02/12/2014 DON JUAN BREMERHAVEN 25/11/2014 NEW YORK, NY 10/12/2014 TORINO A vessel left yesterday, I know the system is 24-48 hours behind actual status , there probably is no way it could have made that ship right? BREMERHAVEN 28/10/2014 NEW YORK, NY 13/11/2014 ASIAN KIN Last edited by Anderw; 10-29-2014 at 02:59 PM.. |
