Exclamation Losing center caps - escalating the issue!

So I headed to work this morning and parked. As I was walking out of the car and headed down the parking lot, I find a BMW center cap laying on the floor! I start to think a bit and remember reading on these forums about peoples center caps falling off.. so I walk back to my car and took a walk around.. and to my surprise (or not) I was missing a center cap on the front right wheel!

This is an issue. No.. not because I almost lost mines, and the world revolves around me , but because many people (I counted atleast 10 on these forums - some multiple times!) are reporting losing theirs and in some cases paying for replacements!

How do we want to address this?

Is it the complete Roundel center piece, or just the white and blue part?

I just checked my car and all of those pieces feel tight.

Shit I thought i was the only one that noticed that detail...

It is the whole cap and it seems to primarily happen on the front wheels where all our power is. Oh wait we have rear wheel drive

I made it to 3000 miles and 3 months before one disappeared so you never know. It's not that it will just fall out right away when you drive.

you just take them off and put some tape around the inside clips

From the front or from behind, wheel off?

Its easiest from behind but I have seen some use a suction cup to pull it out. Otherwise you have to pull the wheel to push from behind

You don't to take the wheel off just pop the cap with a flat screw driver or similar.

from behind

Yes have had this problem in the past, and this is how I solved it. I used black electrical tape worked great. Simple tolerance issue, BMW must have missed it or manufacturers q/c are missing it.

Just be careful if using a screw driver. You can scratch or chip the paint. That's why i like the suction cup idea.

I've also done a dab of epoxy on a couple of the tabs as a more permanent solution. Not glued to wheel, mind you. Remove, apply and let dry to make the tabs a bit thicker then reinstall.

Umm I just went to my dealership and they put a new one on (and washed the car.) They will keep track of the issue.
