Sweet! I am going to Oktoberfest in September and wanted to do the Welt and museum. Is it worth it to do both? Can you just show up and take the tours or do you have to make reservations in advance?

I did this a few years ago and you can reserve on line or just show up. One of the coolest things was reserving a ride in a historic pre WWII BMW around Munich and included tour of the museum at the end as well as another "museum" where BMW keeps all of the older cars in driving condition. I forget what that place was called but it was similar to the vault tour of Petersen Auto Museum in LA. Unfortunately when my old computer HD crashed I lost all of the pictures.

If you are a real BMW fan, do not miss the museum!

You definitely want to reserve factory tour tickets beforehand - depending on the season they are booked weeks or even months in advance. You don't need tickets for the Welt, it's like a big showroom displaying the major models currently available (including Mini and RR), plus a couple cafes and gift shop. In fact, the whole building is a bit like a gift shop, only some of the items are special order and have one or two commas in the price tag. The Museum is a must-see. Tickets are reasonable priced and you can get them at the door. The Museum shows all the history, including bikes, racing, a couple aero motors and special exhibits.
Also, some time this fall the new Classics division will be open in the original BMW factory, just down the street. I was there this Spring and got to peek through the windows, I felt like a kid at Christmas Enjoy! |
