Outside Thermometer
How can the outside thermometer read 15 to 20 degrees LOWER than the actual temperature? This will be the first winter with this car and while it does indicate a freeze warning at 37 degrees as it should, it hasn't gotten below 40 here in ole Virginny (yet).
Does anyone know how to re-calibrate the outside thermometer? |

I wish I had an answer, or possibly a way to code in the correct temp, but I'm at the same spot you are. Several times this year in over 100°F temps, the outside temp reading registered in the 80s until I started moving down the road. It eventually catches up with the real temp around 3-5 degrees from actual, but only after I've been driving for 10-15 minutes. 2014 M235i

I thought there was a similar post about this.
The temp sensor I believe is in the front bumper and if the bumper is in the shade or gets cool updrafts from a sewer it might read cooler then ambient |

The sensor sits in the cavity between the left front wheel liner and the bumper. The sensor could be bad.

My daughter drove her 2002 E46 (now sold) through some muddy roads and some of the mud went around the temp sensor. It was giving weird readings until I rinsed off the mud.
