How do you guys clean wheels and keep them clean? OMG, with the grooves and cuts and the nasty brake dust collector groove behind the spokes, they are so hard to clean!!!!

Any tips?? Many thanks!

I spray some Mequiar's Detail cleaner on a micro-fiber rag and have at it.

I clean with Chemical Guys wheel cleaner and after done cleaning every few washes I apply Chemical Guys Wheel Guard which is a great wheel wax and usually dust will come right off with a pressure washer

Do wheels just like your paint

Rinse & Wash
or
Rinse & Wash & Wax
or
Rinse & Wash & Polish ( non abrasive ) & Wax

Use small sponge or applicators to wash.
Use microfiber or 100% cotton towels for wax and polish

I never use plastic bristle brushes for washing/cleaning - I think plastic bristles are capable of putting tiny scratches on wheel finish. I stay away from all brushes.

Wink I Love This Thread!!!

Right

I personally hand wash my car.

The first time I got down to wash my wheels(M235i), I was like

Especially the front wheels(the brake dust), I was like WTF is up with this crevice? Fortunately thanks to this forum I purchased Griots wheel cleaner. This stuff works great. Spray it on the wheels, gently use a wheel cleaning brush and spray off, voila the wheels look factory new including the inner hub.

I highly recommend Griots wheel cleaner, it works great

Should make the douche bag wheel designer clean the wheel 100 times before approving design. Its like they ask "How can we design this to make it more difficult to clean". I have never had a wheel with that ridge in the back of the spoke,,,MF.

For the face of the wheel, I use this brush Uber Detailing Brush
For my wheel's barel, I use this brush EZ-Detail Brush and that cleaner works the best for me P21S Wheel Cleaner Gel

Some people like to use these Wheel Woolies and that cleaner Sonax Full Effect Sonax also released this new wheel cleaner Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus

Although I never use the woolies I bought or never tried the Sonax cleaner, people seem to like them.

Best regards and happy detailing!

What this guy said is exactly what I do except I use the P21S wheel cleaner gel and a lug brush (it's like a round paintbrush) to get inside the lug holes.

Same as above- wheel cleaner, lug brush, large Speed Master and small bent Speed Master to get the grooves behind the spokes.

I don't know what the big deal is. In 10 minutes, I clean the windows with ArmorAll Auto Glass Cleaner, using paper towels; Meguiar's Tire Spray on a Micro-Fiber cloth to dress and clean the tires; Meguiar's Quik Detailer on a new Micro-Fiber cloth to dust and clean all of the paint and trim, followed with the same brew on another rag for the rims.

Just not a big deal. 10 minutes max. I do this 2 or 3 times a week. Easy

I never use ANY wheel cleaning chemicals on my wheels. There is no need. If you wax your wheels with any polymer sealant or better (carnauba waxes are not heat resistant) and clean them regularly you won't need cleaners. If you do wax your wheels and then use cleaners, guess what happens! You eventually just remove all the protection you applied. All I use is the a mix of my car wash shampoo in a spray bottle. Cleans everything off perfectly and preserves the wax you protected your wheels with.

I use a Wheel Woolie for the barrels. My secret weapon for the crevice behind the spokes is a 1" soft foam paintbrush that can be purchased at any hardware store. It gets behind the crevice easily and fits perfectly around the lug nuts. 30 seconds to perfection!
