How much stink eye would I get.....

...if I got a Techno Violet Autoflex spray wrap on my M240i?

On the one hand, I’ve always wanted a BMW with this color and this is the only way to do it, outside of buying an E36. On the other hand, I’m not in a position to do that. I just love the color.

I’d pair the color with Apex E35 forged brushed aluminum wheels, and I’d do the calipers in yellow to accent. What do you folks think?

On general principles, you should make it whatever color you prefer. As for one other subjective opinion, I think it would be extremely good-looking. Purple or orange are personal favorites, especially among a sea of drab silvers, grey, black, white, etc.

I have to agree with Stick, car colors are generally pretty bland and this would be wild to see on the road. I say go for it! I am in a similar e36 paint scheme situation with my 2 series. I am slowly morphing mine into a track-biased machine and am flirting with the E36 lightweight livery.

Why spray wrap instead of vinyl? Back in the day of being on advertising shoots, we just called that “peel coat”.

I like the idea of a spray wrap because if it’s true that they say, and you get an almost exact color code match rather than picking from a roll of wrap on the shelf...

I mean....that color is the whole point for me.
If it’s “Atomic Glossy Purple Plum” or whatever then that’s not what I’m after.

I say go for it... and share your results.

I have to admit that I wasn't excited about any of the colors offered on this car, so I went with Alpine White. I like AW, but I have to admit that I fantasize about having a color I *really* like. I've always been partial to greens which have never been offered on this car. I don't know how likely it is that I'll ever pull the trigger on a wrap or a spray-on removable... but, if I'm impressed with YOUR results, who knows?

I have thought about this a BUNCH! It is hands down one of my fav colors from BMW.

Do it.

How much does something like this cost out of curiosity? Thanks!

I get it. I'd go "plum crazy" if it didn't turn out as I wanted!

I haven’t quoted it out yet but I suspect it’ll cost about 3k. Which means I have to save my pennies for a few months.

There are also no appliers here in SoCal, and I think I’d want to get it done by the same shop in Portland OR where the fella got his M2 done in San Merino Blue. So I’ll have to make a little vacation out of it.

Portland is a pretty nice place to visit in the spring and the summer. And a fun road trip up The 5, too.

Beaugeste it was a very nice place to visit... Now we are infested with low ambition and mask connoisseurs. The city of Portland has simply become a joke and really irritating to drive around in.

I feel the same way about the Techno Violet, but I didn't know about Autoflex until after I got mine wrapped in 3M Gloss Wicked. For about the first year and a half it looked great but not quite what I wanted, now it's really faded and scratched all to heck (curbside parking, no garage available). This photo was taken when it still looked pretty good:

You’re welcome. I asked a few local places about getting it painted Techno Violet, and $10,000 USD (I was not going to go the MAACO route) was a bit too much for a 228i convertible in my opinion at least.

the color in the photo looks spectacular, but it is clear that you do not have to be shy to have it, although I would love it.

That color would look great with some gold wheels, if you're into that sort of thing.

I actually don't mind the color.

What I would mind, though, I'd eventually deciding to remove it and having to peel it out of all the crevices. It comes off large panels just fine, but it really sticks at the edges because it sprays on so thin. It would drive me crazy having gritty rubber wrap in the small crevices later on.
