228i M sport (no paddles)
Hey everybody,
New to the forum, but have been looking through it the last few weeks. I知 looking to buy my first BMW and pretty set on a 228i (or an M235i for the right price). I知 in Ontario so I知 looking for xdrive and 2015 seems to be fitting my price range. I致e test driven a 230i from the dealer and fell in love with the size and feel of the car. This model had the sport auto transmission and paddles. When I have been searching online, I致e noticed more 228i from 2015 that have the m sport steering wheel, sport + mode, but no paddles and the different gear shifter. From what I understand this is auto vs sports auto I知 wondering if anyone has any experience with these and could fill me in on the main differences between the two versions and what changes I should expect before driving out to check one of these out. I知 attaching a link to a sample ad. Thanks in advance! http://www.autotrader.ca/go/19-10815163 |

There are no "2 versions" of the 2er auto tranny - they're all the same whether in the 228i or 230i or M235i or M240i. The paddles were a $100 option I could have ordered on my 2015xi but didn't think I'd ever use them, so I declined. I now have had them on my M235xi and my M240xi - and have yet to use them (but they look kinda cool). If you've taken the 228xi for a test drive and like it, haggle them down as much as possible and go for it.

Yes, as far as I know the paddles are just switches. If there's a transmission that can't go into sport mode, I've not heard of it. (Tilt the stick to the left.) I like the paddles a lot and use them often.
