I think it is. It's just another sign of BMW getting further away from the essence of a truly visceral experience in a car. I just think the money could be spent elsewhere. Obviously the sound of a car is relevant as evidenced by the existence of this thread and others related to the sound of the car. Active sound is a part of that.

Let me just say this. If anyone skips the M2 for this reason alone, they are fools. |

Same. The M3/4 doesn't sound bad IRL (most of the time), but the M2 just has a much throatier and doesn't have that annoying rasp the S55 has.

I liked the tone of the M235 better than M3/4 from the get-go, it just needs some volume which seems to be taken care of with the M2. I'm relieved so far not to hear the flatulent nature of the M3/4. I don't think active sound will bug me but sure I'd prefer real noise over artificial like Porsche is doing.

That sound tho! That's what an ///M car should sound like exiting a corner.

I might understand if someone skips the M2 because of lack of color choices
I might understand if someone skips the M2 because it doesn't have an S55 I might understand if someone skips the M2 because it's not much lighter than an M4. But don't expect me to understand if someone skips the M2 purely because it's got Active Sound that can be coded out if it bothers you that much. FYI, that wasn't aimed at anyone in particular. But I still stand by what I said.

I recently saw an M4 sitting at a stop light. The driver had his windows up. I had not heard the cars true exhaust sound before but I was aware that, to many, the sound added no dignity to, (at best, a petty contributor to), an otherwise well designed car. As the M4 accelerated from the light, I heard an exhaust note which , to me, confirmed the criticism.
The irony, though, of the encounter was that the driver, window up, listening to a piped in sound was probably thinking to himself how muscular his car sounded. While those of us listening to the true sound of his exhaust note heard something dull and lackluster. I hope the M2 provides something better. |

So, something like "Once upon a time there was the mighty ĢE9 Batmobileģ. Nowadays there is the ĢE8X Fartmobileģ" ?
Just teasing, guys. E8X are great cars. Feel free to drop off a container over here for the good cause.

But then we'll be looked down upon and derided because we don't have true Ms. Despite the fact the M2 quad exhaust will be the exact same setup as the 235 M performance but with 4 tips.
