2 series allocations

I tried to order an M2 competition from my dealer today, but he told me that BMW was limiting allocations at this time. Anyone have any insights as to what's going on?

Thanks.

Did the dealer indicate whether BMW is limiting future allocations, or restricting dealers from using allocations they already have? Also, are the limits across all series? I'm going tomorrow to place an X-series order.

Future allocations. Didn’t ask about other models.

Final batch of allocations are or will be out any day. This is the final batch for the M2.

BMW is shutting down the line by July, presumably to convert it to another model. Being German, they are proceeding very methodically. It makes sense to start with the lowest-selling variant and to go from there, so that is why the M2 goes first. I suspect that the 240 might go next, or maybe all convertibles, since those share a body and are low volume, but I have no inside information and I am not a betting man.

Thanks, but bad answer, I think.
