Question OK Stupid Question time!

OK so before someone throws this out I did look thru the manual and didn't see this; so if I missed it sorry.

In the interim here is my question on a 2015 228IX Can I get the "Dual" climate control to "sync" together AKA both always stay the same as each other??

I asked my dealers BMW "Genius" oxymoron in and of itself and she said she didn't see a sync button so I can not. I find this hard to believe...

No you cannot. They replaced the "all" button from the E9x generation with "max AC"

I don't know what the designers were thinking!! It's so annoying to have to adjust both sides individually each time!!

Man not the answer I was hoping for but thanks for the response. Amazing I cannot syc temps on a $40K+ vehicle. However that being the only gripe with the car thus far I'll give it a 4.9 outta 5.0! Thanks!

I wonder if we could simply stretch a rubber band around the two knobs. Wouldn't that sync them up?

This isn't true. They still have it in the 5 series. There's just not enough room for an all/sync button..

I personally don't see why it's a big issue. I usually have my temp set around 67-70, so I just keep the passenger side somewhere in that area

Yes it IS true, the all button used to be I the same spot that is occupied now by the "max AC" button on the 2 and 3-4 series

What does the 5 series have to do with any of this?

My X4 has the sync feature button. My M235i does not. In the sports car I require my passenger to "ask politely" if she needs a temperature change...so I guess it's a voice-activated feature.

Both of our cars have the "His & Hers" Dual climate controls and I have to say, it's a real peace maker. I suspect there's a small amount of placebo effect in being able to set your own temp, but it sure makes my wife happy. Best money I ever spent.

the bmw genius i asked said it's some kind of business decision...they want certain things available in higher series as "incentive" for ppl to buy them. Hence why it's on the 5, but not on 2 (and apparently 3 or 4 either?). kinda similar to why they don't have HUD for the 2. Dual climate control is such a basic functionality though, seems like it should be standard

It's shockingly stupid, but they did it. They dropped it so now you have to adjust it twice every time you change temperature. But they gave you a cool glowing M235i Logo in the instrument cluster!

I think I change the temperature in my car twice a year, to 68 in the winter and to 70 in the summer. I'm good with needing to turn an extra knob two clicks twice a year.

What I really miss in the new cars is the "REST" button.

That is partially true, but in this case I think it was just a matter of they changed the HVAC design since it's not on the F30 either. The HUD from another article I read was actually a packaging constraint. They could not fit the HUD unit in the space available on the 2.

But you're right, nicer features are reserved for nicer cars. Which is why we'll never get the massaging seats with ventilation.

Really? I find this hard to believe. Have you seen how much empty space there is underneath the dash between the gauge cluster and the bulkhead? Tons -- I was quite surprised when I saw how open that area is, and the nacelle hood behind the gauge cluster on top of the dash is purely decorative.

It's absolutely a business packaging decision. No other explanation.

Our $80k X5 50i does not have that feature and our $70k SLK55 doesn't have it either, but the Mazda 6 rental car I had this week did. Go figure.

Honestly dual climate control in a vehicle with this small a cabin is useless. I feel heated seats are as well unless you have the vert. The heater and AC in this car works so well the car heats up and cools down so quickly. You are so close to each other I just dont see how its a benefit. A manual AC would work just fine. The new Porsche Boxster Spider comes standard without climate control but its a no cost option for the manual climate control or a $750 option for dual. No way I would spend that $750.

My guess (nothing more than a guess) is that they didn't bother with the R&D and other costs of adding it (and other options like ventilated seats) to the option list because they assumed the "take" rate would be low. Even on the 5 series at a much higher price point you don't see many cars equipped with it, most of the time on the 550 and M5. In addition, from a marketing perspective, a fully optioned 2 is already "invading" the price range of the 3.

Strongly disagree. Works very well in our SLK, which has a far, far smaller cabin than the 2. MY GF is always cold and I'm always hot. After enjoying the dual control, we would view its lack of availability on any new vehicle we were looking at to be a major negative.

I guess my internal thermostat is not that sensitive.

Says the guy from the state where temperatures in the upper-20s are considered a brutal cold wave in the winter.

Try rolling out of the house in the morning when your car's been sitting all night and the seat/padding/frame are all at the same -10degF temperature as the rest of the neighborhood, then realize your backside is insulating all that cold material from the car's heater.
