Here?s a pic of my M235 (2016) next to my first car (03 E39 525i). Had an e36 M3 before the 235.. sold it before I could get a pic of the two together.

2016 M235i, bought it 3 weeks ago with 9800 miles, hit 12k yesterday. Black sapphire over black Dakota interior. Tech package, 8AT.

Congats! Is it RWD/8AT? if so that's a great combo. What are your initial thoughts on the 2 series coming from your e36M?

Gongrats on the M235i. I'm on my 4th BMW 135i > E92 328i > F30 328i > M235i. This one is by far my favorite. It should bring you smiles for years to come.

RWD/8AT, yes. It's a completely different car than the M3. Much more refined (my M3 was a 97 with 208k miles in it). My first turbo car as well, but the N55 is a great engine in that I really dont notice much if any turbo lag.

Congrats on the new car. You will love how fast and refined they are.
Always loved the front end of the E39.

I'm keeping my old one too...refreshing to get back in a simpler, more elemental car from the same marque.

Garage List
Well, just to balance things up, here's a photo of my first car against my current one:

BMC Austin 1300: 1.3L 4-Cyl Petrol 58 BHP, 16.5 secs 0-60, No power steering, No ABS, manual screenwash pump, manual windows, no aircon, 28.9MPG (UK), 1850 lbs kerbweight, Wheels 5.5Jx12, Tyres 140/80-12

BMW M235i Convertible, 3.0L Petrol 6-Cyl 326 BHP, 4.9 secs 0-60, all that stuff, 29.9MPG (UK), 3737lbs kerbweight

To be fair, the Austin had quite a respectable power/weight ratio for the time, plus the innovation of seatbelts and synchromesh gears (no need to double de-clutch, which I had to learn to do for my driving test as many cars on the road still lacked this). I did have to push a tall button on the dashboard to manually pump the water onto the windscreen - it actually worked quite well. And it had 'hyrdolastic suspension' which was briefly popular and gave it quite a good ride for the size of car. But in retrospect, not a vehicle you'd want to have a crash in, given the relatively light body.

And those of you who have seen my posts asking why people need/want to go to 8.5Jx19 will understand why when they see my first car's 5.5Jx12 wheels and 140/80-12 tires and why sometimes I find it hard to accept just how low profile modern car wheels have become :-)
