That would be super. Maybe I should hang on to my Thule platform rack a little while longer. I was almost ready to get a roof rack but I would really prefer a hitch/platform for hauling around two mountain bikes.

I don't know why you don't order F23 M235i towing hitch. It's listed in F23 M235i US ETK: HERE

Rear bumper, exhaust,... are the same for F22 and F23 M235i so it should be OK F22 and you get factory quality fitment and not shitty aftermarket one...

It wouldn't be a terribly cheap way to go about it, but I have half a mind to buy the BMW hitch, take the removable section, torch the ball off and weld on a 1-1/4" square HSS section. I have no intention of towing anything, so it wouldn't need to be terribly substantial, just enough for a Thule 2-bike rack and a couple road bikes.

I really would like to avoid putting a roof rack on if I can avoid it.

We are not trying to tow things, we are trying to mount bike racks which take a square receiver. The ball mount is only useful if you are trying to pull a small trailer.

There's a lot of room under the 228i's to install a hitch.

Has anyone tried a 3-series to see if it will fit?

They didn't respond to my email yet.

I did see an M4 with a platform and a 1up single on I-25 the other day, I got all excited and took a pic, see if I can post that later.

I may drive over to Tempe to the U-haul R&D facility and let them use my car for a hitch design.

Has anyone done this with any other car or know how long it would take? I don't mind a road trip if there's no other solution so long as I could get my car back quickly.

Also interested to know if anyone has heard from Torklift central.

I am talking to U-Haul, my options are either getting them to make it local for $1000, or travel to Tempe and get it free but take 2-3 days off work, hotel, kennel the dogs etc...

I'll buy one if they sell and market it too. Is there a discount for getting others to buy one? Maybe send me your contact info for uhaul and we could drop the price from $1000.00

From my reading, it looks like Westfalia makes two types of hitch for the F22, one with a quick-detach looking mechanisim for the ball

and one with two steel ears that stick down that the mini-gooseneck thing bolts to

The latter seems to be fairly inexpensive ($227 US equivalent from a polish distributor) and might be a good candidate for modification. I'm thinking about cutting the ears down to the point where they don't take away from ground clearance, drilling two more holes in each wing, then welding up two matching wings onto a length of HSS sized to match a class I/II tube, like so:

https://docs.google.com/presentation...it?usp=sharing

That way without it attached, it would have no negative effect on the vehicle's performance or appearance when removed, and it would only add about 3 minutes onto the installation process.

Now to find a dealer for these who will ship to the US...

FWIW if you were going to go that route and to try to make modifications you would probably be better off just finding a local shop that has some experience to build you a hitch. Construction wise they are pretty simple, especially for a Class 1 receiver. The 3 series Curt hitch was very simple and if you wanted a science project you could buy one for ~$150 and see how close it is to fitting on the 2 series.

I did find someone local who was going to build me a hitch for the F30 before the Curt hitch came out but I don't have a need for one on the F2x currently. You may be able to find a local vendor who will build you a couple as a group buy to help offset the costs as well.

Eh, got a puny 110v wirefeed welder in the garage, I think I can pull off something passable

Chopping up one of the Curt hitches might definitely be a cheaper solution as you say, tho

From U-Haul:

Hello,
Unfortunately we don't have a hitch for a 2015 BMW M235i xdrive. We can custom build one for $1000.00 or if you are able to come to Tempe Arizona we can build one at no charge

We would have to custom build the hitch first out here in Tempe Arizona. We have to find the vehicle first and then begin the process. There's no time limit on how long it will take us to find the vehicle but once we do it takes about 3 business days to create the blueprint and 6-8 weeks for the build.
